Well, this is a different sort of trident maple. They have leaves with long petioles and the middle lobe of the leaf is extended. The whole tree puts on the appearance of a weeping willow rather than the typical maple. They donāt send out long shoots as a general rule. Instead, each bud tend to throw out a āsprayā of about 20 leaves. Creating a dense canopy.First, congratulations for selection for the Nationals!!
Second, I assume the rarity of this Trident led to it's selection. I believe the image here, as shown, is somewhat below your standards.
Third? Great tree!!!
So, the typical structure of a Mino is very different due to their unique growth habit. They also tend to produce bulges on their branches and trunks. Areas of reverse taper, for no known reason! So instead of them being a āfaultā, those bulges are seen as being a defining Characteristic of the cultivar. They also develop a flaky, exfoliating bark. Again, Completely different than Most tridents.
Youāve likely never seen one in person. Iāve only seen a couple of them. Come to the National show next September and see it in person. I think youāll have an entirely different impression!
