Mame pots on a mini pottery wheel

Have you tried throwing these small pots off the hump? I can throw several dozen mame pots in a sitting this way as opposed to throwing individually
That was mentioned early on in this thread. My wheel doesn't have enough torque. I have a routine to work on a pot and let it dry over night. In the morning it's put aside until it's time to detail. For me it's not really trying to rush out a dozen pots at one sitting.

I am also in the process of making a new mini wheel. Hopefully this one will have a bit more torque.

Oh sure!

I TOTALLY know what you guys are talking about... but doesn't that get hairy... I'd get sand in my eye.

🤦🏽‍♂️🥸

But more seriously, "Huh?"

Are you just joking around or you really don't know what throwing off the hump means?

I really don't know. :)
You take a good amount if clay, center it on the wheel. Then you make a large cone/tower (hump) and make your piece at the top of the cone/tower (hump) verses directly on the wheel. When you finish your piece you take your wire cutter and cut it off the hump. Then proceed to make your next piece on the top of the hump. This process is good for smaller pieces. You can pump out a good amount of pieces in short time.

I don't do clay (as much as I'd love to if I had the time), but I didn't know what "off they hump" meant until I watched The Great Pottery Throw Down on HBO (max?). I don't normally like those types of shows, but I highly recommend that one. Everyone is so nice to each other compared to most competition shows. Very chill.

I had HEARD "the hump" expression used in conversation.. just never had inquired further until just now..

Thank you all!

I love me some learnin'!

I've been into quite a few hobbies, and pottery seems to have the coolest and nicest people of them all so far....at least for me. I can spend hours at the studio talking with the other potters about techniques, glazing, firing, etc.....

I bet the host would cry seeing @Pitoon's work too!

I had no idea such a show existed! That's exciting!

Pitoon.. Can you recommend a common power output for a medium/small wheel.. I've got a plethora of motors and would like to start "tinkering"

Ahhh man, lol.

I am quite excited about this batch. 100 pots to glaze (maybe a few will be unglazed) and about 100 different glazes to play with.

I should have some nice combos.....I hope!!! 😁

Any motor can work......the issue is controlling the speed/rpm. The new mini wheel I'm making will use a 997 series dc motor at 12vdc. You can also control speed with pulleys, but then you won't have a variable speed.

If you run a 120vac motor......you need to know what you're doing......water and electricity can kill.

Thank you, friend!
