Large diamater elm hardwood cuttings.

@Dav4 - did you ever give this a go? Any success? The reason I'm resurrecting the thread is I just hacked up a corker . . .
It is always worth a shot man... if you want a few more trees to work on, I find nothing in Bonsai more fun and rewarding than making my own from scratch!
 
Chamfer the bottom edge at least 1/4 inch. Screw bottom to plywood about 6 inches square. Plant in ground at least two inches deep (or deeper) and water "as needed" when the temps are above 70 degrees and it will root.

I have successfully done pomegranate, elm, olive and grape this way. In fact I have a grape I did last year. I will dig it out Sunday. Going to Yosemite tomorrow.

I did...I cut back several trunks that provided many cuttings of varying diameter...they all pushed leaves which dried up shortly there after...I've moved on;).
