Just Introducing Myself

Trees all survived winter! Wonderful start:D. Agree with great beginner collection. Love Ponderosa(?)cascade AND pot. Beware of anybody(know it alls)here that tells you have to do this or that....
I don't see how stating my OPINION ON AN INTERNET FORUM makes me a "know it all"- JFTR, that is what "IMO" means: "IN MY OPINION"- I thought FORUMS were created specifically FOR the sharing of opinions. Hell, I barely post here any more compared to many people and even compared to my own past volume- but if I think something sucks I am going to tell people. (And JFTR, I only said I hated the pot, not the tree.. Pretty cool little tree) We get more benefit from criticisms followed by advice than the "ohh it all looks so great, good for you" rah-rah comments that give zero direction to people who are new to the hobby.

The people newbs should beware of are those who comment on threads and never show a decent tree of their own or prove they have any knowledge or insight of their own worth passing along.
Thanks guys! I have been on the fence myself about the hex pot. When I acquired the pine, it was in a rectangle pot (pictures below). However, when it was shipped to me it was poorly packaged and the pot shattered in transit.

Luckily I had that old Tokoname hex lying around that I had gotten from Jim Doyle but was unable to use on another tree. Some people like it, some people hate it. I am still trying to decide but will probably change it at some point.

It is fine as a temporary solution... I mean people grow trees in colanders and Tupperware sometimes- this is certainly a better looking option than that!! My point was that I don't feel it fits the style of the tree... The shape, well... I don't know what would look good in a hexagon like that honestly! What I was getting at is it seems the rock basically IS the pot for that tree, right? Are all the roots contained within the cavity of that rock? I cannot tell prom the pics... But the third one above made me think that is the case- If so, does it really need a bonsai pot? A shallow dish of water under the rock might be all you need... If it is sort of a root OVER rock, or if there are significant roots below the rock, then I'd think a shallow very Long oval or rectangle pot would look better with the rock planted towards one side... That rock almost resembles a crescent pot, which might be the best option for this tree in the long run... Lots of things you could do! It is a nice little pine regardless, would just be nicER once it is in a more fitting container- again in my very humble opinion, if we are still allowed to voice those freely on this forum? ;)

Wow, really amazing collection, not just quantity but quality. To my, mostly untrained eye, it is all very great looking, and to begin with, even better!

I really like maples, and your Japanese maple does look to have a really great trunk, measurement-wise. Maybe just personal liking.
My maple felt off its perch this morning in high winds, first time ever had something like that happen.. It somehow landed on its pot, upright, but had a load of soil chucked out, but seems to be no branch damage, which is the most important thing.
Hope to see more of you on the forum.

You're now officially a know it all.
Which is better than a know it not all like the guy you're quoting.
