I am guessing that you are talking about Chojubai. I don’t do field grow most of my trees because I don’t have any space! If I had, I would grow Chojubai in the ground. However, I would take more precautions for this! As you may know, Chojubai likes humidity and cool . In our area, it is too dry and hot! To grow Chojubai in our area, you must give it these requirements! Knowing that fact, I would not put under the direct sunlight and would give it plenty of humidity via automatic misty system ! I hope this info will help your decision!

I transplanted 5 Nichi-Getsu-Sei quince into the clay pots yesterday. I cut a lot of roots. The soil is pumice: mini pine bark: fir ground with ratio 1:1:1. As always, I used twine to stabilize the tree in the new pot.
I know they still need a lot of work but in the mean time I can enjoy their flowers.
Four of them are having the flower buds at this time. They may bloom early this year!
This contorted quince starts blooming now. Because the flower petals are thin compared to TN, its white color is not thick! You can see a little light pink in it. The white color will change to light pink in a few days.

I expected this small one blooming right in the 1st day of Vietnamese New Year, but ....!!! We are getting a lot of rain, cold wind here in the last few days, so everything are slowing down!
I consider I am very lucky to get this fantastic quince, Nichi-Getsu-Sei, from my teacher in 2010. It was in 3 gallon container at that time. Then, I placed it into the 15 gallon container 2 years later to have mother tree for my study and propagation. After almost 9 years of extensive experiment, I think I get enough experience for this kind of quince but still need more learning. I started placing the cuttings and airlayerings into the bonsai pot in 2016. Last fall, I transplanted 5 more into the bonsai pots.
This is one of them to which I took pictures under light rain this morning.
These flower buds are from another tree.
I hope you will enjoy them as I do.

Outside temp was about 35 F at night for more than a week already. It slows down the quince flower progress. However, I am fine with that, since I enjoy looking at the flower buds as well!
This group of buds are fantastic to be looked at!
