Jacqueline Hillier Elm

No fun in that is there..
Im letting mine go, and pruning for now is minimal , I want a bit more height.
No rush for me.

Yeah I chopped mine this spring and intend to let it grow wild, and gain some height. With that lovely foliage I want a canopy large enough to show it off. Lots of folks go for the thick trunk short tree thing, but in this case I'd rather see it as a taller tree.

Any follow up on this tree? I picked up a 4” potted one today. Pretty excited about it.

Asking again if any follow up on the initial post. Seems like a really aggressive attack on the tree, so it would be helpful to see how it turned out.

After those pics were taken it EXPLODED with new growth and did fantastically, unfortunately it didn't make it through winter for some reason. I was devastated.

I have one, bought last spring and chopped hard... One of my favorite trees, in an albeit small collection...

Brent

This tree always makes me double take since my cousins name is Jacqueline Hillier hah

I have a JH that I neglected somewhat, A bottom branch died back while I wasn't watching :(

It's a Potensai rather than a Bonasi!!

I don't even recall where I got it from!

John :)

You may have already seen this small one I already posted here:

I gave it to a friend last summer, told her to slip-pot it because it was rootbound and the wether was scorching hot, but she didn't, the tree suffered from the heat, somewhat recovered but failed to bud out this spring.

It's dead now. I still have the mother plant somewhere, another cutting actually, I'll make other cuttings and give her one to soothe her pain, she was so sorry 😄

Hey newbie to Bonsai here! I managed to pick up a Jacqueline Hillier Elm! I've had him around 2 years now. This was photo was taken 30th May 2021. He was left in a hoop house neglected for 3 years before I was able to take him home.

Loves sitting out in my south facing garden soaking up all the sun and growing like crazy!!

I have 15 of these since striking cuttings last year, theyre all in my raised bed now. I am thinking forest, maybe even with some rocks. I prefer JH spring growth to that of parvifolia, seijuu, microcarpa, because it is a fresher/ lusher green

I just picked one up this afternoon at Mountain Meadows Nursery north of Asheville. I plan to put it in the grow bed and let it thicken up a few years. Right now it could pass as a skinny shohin but I’d like it to be a chunky chuhin.

Is it true that this type of elm is slow grower?

I added this little guy yesterday. Not very big but will be interesting to see how it develops.
