ehm.. pseudocydonia and cheanomeles are two different plant genera; Are you sure you are not mixing two species ? (Maybe I have missed something and the pseudocydionia genus has fused into the chaenomeles?).

Its just different folks classifying/naming it, and 'pseudocydonia' winning out. As seen if you search pseudocydonia on rhs
