Is this trident for real?

Hello Don!

I agree, all it takes are 2 interested parties to have a bidding war.

Been buying through eBay for 12 years now and this time of year (and the next 2 months) has always been good time for buyers. Most of your usual competition are low in cash (or still paying CC debt) that it very much turns into a buyer's market...esp for more expensive stuff. I got some "steal" this way. ;)

Agreed. But there is a difference between what its worth to two people and what its worth to the rest of the bonsai community. A better way to determine what its worth would be to sell another one and perhaps a third one and see what they sell for and then you might start seeing its true value. I have gotten some very nice trees from ebay, including from Don. You wont catch me getting in a passionate bidding war over something though. Thats just silly.

I agree and do the same 99.9% of the time. I admit to have had some moment of weakness on a handful items. I am usually a "sniper" and bid once during the last few (6) seconds. Usually leaving me or others no time to bid after.

Stacy I'd bet Al's wallet will fill quicker than yours. Re. adding in all the incremental cost items just lets you determine a sale price that lets you make a profit, if it sells at the price figured. A piece on the shelf with a price tag has no value.

There is value, and there is worth, and as to pricing, there is an ass for every seat.

What am I missing? Why is this thing going for so much on eBay? Opinions please. Maybe after grafting it could be a good tree but it's not worth this much now, is it?

Yeah that is quite high, sometimes we see that, all it takes is two to tango and up goes the auction price, eh

Happy seller, hopefully non remorseful buyer

thanks for showing NBS

I opened up the bidding on this maple because since no one bid on it right away I thought I could get it for a "steal". Man, was I wrong. I originally thought it might go for around $200 tops. But I'm a newbe to bonsai so after seeing it go for so much I thought I was wrong to think it would go for what I thought it would go for. After reading the comments on this thread though, I realize the price of the tree could have fallen anywhere as long as it is worth it to the highest bidder. I guess that's what ebay is all about anyway...
