Thanks BonsaiNaga13 for creating the thread of Huangshan pine seedlings. Because of that thread, I got a bite !!!
I create my own thread, so I can easily update my work progress.
I recently bought 150 seeds from Tree Seeds. I think it should be about 300 seeds or more!
IMG_0704.jpg

The seeds look healthy under my eyes. I took 100 seeds out yesterday to start seedling.

I diluted 3% hydrogen peroxide into the warm water with ratio 1:2. Thanks for
IMG_0706.jpg

The seeds were poured into the solution. All of seeds were floating at 0 hour

At 13 hours, mane seeds are in the bottom. Interestingly, some of seeds are just up and down. They are carried by the air bubbles attached to their skin. It is very fun to watch this phenomenon!

At 24 hours, 23 seeds are still floating on the surface. However I sowed them all.

I made multiple holes in the bottom of plastic container with pointy scissors.

The substrate is pumice : orchid seedling bark with 1:1 ratio

Water the soil and the seeds were sown 1” apart. Then water it again.

These containers were protected from the direct sunlight and wind.
This morning I took out 30 seeds and soaked them in the warm rap water ( no hydrogen peroxide at this time) to compare with other one .

Very cool @bonhe this will be awesome to watch
Thanks Potsofgreen. You should not just watch! If you don't mind, I can gift you some to practice your skills! :)

Mine have taken some harsh snow. I'll see if they survived in a few months.
I think it should be OK with snow.

The 30 seeds soaked into the warm water yesterday

At 24 hour. Only one seed is still floating. Surprise! What is a lesson here?

From the bottom!

Unlucky I am out of small pumice size. I have to use small DG instead! It ruins my experiment! I use DG: orchid bark seedling with 1:1 ratio. I use a chopstick in one hand, and long pick-up in another hand to introduce the seed into the soil

Now wait and see!

I sowed mine directly into the ground this fall. I have had bad luck doing it that way before but we'll see what happens ha. I'm hoping I have a few to play with by spring, they're supposed to have shorter needles than JBP. I always think the shorter needles look a little nicer during the training process

I agree. The shorter needles will make the tree look nice in training phase

I would love to buy some from you to grow my skills and learn, haha half my collection is going to be from you @bonhe and I think that’s awesome!

bonhe,

bought some seed from an Amazon seller.
Planted 10.
Treated like J.B.pine. 2 came up in under 10 days
Will plant more, let us see if any adapt to the tropics.
Thanks to you guys for the encouragement.
Good Day

Hi Anthony,
It is advantage to live in tropical areas. Mine took a month!
I think Huangshan pine should be fine for your area, just liked JBP. My friends living in Vietnam have been growing JBP seedlings there for almost 9 years with great growth success. JBP continues growing year around there without resting. It can have 4 growth cycles per year! The only problem to which they are facing is fungal infection. Have a nice weekend,

Thu [ forgive me if I write your name back to front ]

Please let your friends know that the eldest J.B.pine down here
is 32 years old, from seed. Gift from a Japanese Teacher - Mr. Y. Danbara
Will be putting it into a growing pot to go for 3 to 4 inches on the trunk.

No great shape, just a great memory.

Great Weekend to you as well !!

Anthony, it should be Thu Thoai , because Thu or Thoai does not have any special meaning ?
Thanks for information. I will let my friend know, so that they can be reassured!
I totally agree with you. The gift from the teacher is invaluable because it means a lot of things which the money cannot get!

There is still only one seedling this morning. The temperature is still 34 F at this time. I wonder why this little guy wakes up early. o_O

Up to yesterday, there were only 3 seedlings up. The temperature is still cold outside. The progress of the seedlings are slow, too.

I can’t wait to see what the first needles look like

The silhouette of the Pines on the Huangshan Mountains are so deeply dear in my heart!

Thanks for the picture. The Huangshan pine shape is similar to the Monterey cypress shape to which I love! Because of that, Huangshan pine is a perfect replacement for me, I think.

Your pictures of the seedlings got me excited to get mine going, mine are still in the fridge with most likely another month and a half before I start them. So for the time being I’ll watch yours grow.:) Thanks for sharing the progress.
