I have a $25 one inbound from Weigert's that I'm pretty sure is going look just like that. Or maybe a little like that. Or not.
Are you not worried about having it shipped now? Our 5 day forecast here is for lows in the teens and 20's.I have a $25 one inbound from Weigert's that I'm pretty sure is going look just like that. Or maybe a little like that. Or not.
Damn you @Forsoothe! I am trying to resist the temptation!I have UPS'd bare root plants from Naples to myself many times in Jan, Feb & Mar. I ship on Mondays and it takes four or five days with no weekend delays. The packages go from warehouse to warehouse in one-day chunks of driving, and are transferred to a new vehicle overnight in a terminal. They spend the day in a trailer in the sun and overnight in a workspace suitable for people. I don't think the package ever gets much below 40°F. I have never lost a plant and usually butcher the plants to stuff as many as possible in with my dirty laundry.
When I do a bare root repot I wash the roots off, cut off the big anchor roots, dust heavily with rooting hormone, and put the whole wet shebang in a sealed plastic bag. That gives the chemicals a chance to do their stimulating and I'm not wiping the hormone off while situating them in the pot and they're never in stress of drying out because they're all wet. Sometimes I leave them in the bag for a week when I'm distracted, and that doesn't seem to matter. I think it's actually better. It works for me, so that's empirical evidence of something.
That explains it. They are very responsible. They babysat a tree for me for 9 weeks, until they felt it was safe to ship. Good luck, hope it arrives safely.I had to Email Weigert's and tell them to ship now and I accept full responsibility. Otherwise they would not ship until spring. No guts, no glory...
$25 for the tree, $21.17 shipping.Niceeee..What did they charge for shipping that ?
I received mine from Wigerts too just a week ago. Also a $25 material. It had some very light yellow leaves due to dark conditions during shipping but has since bounced back with very nice deep green foliage. Going to use the labor day to get it into a nicer looking pot and change to all akadama to reduce potential bug issues in the winter. Wife is going to kill me if I have those little flies in the house againHere it is, on time and unfazed by 4 days in a box. It was well-packed in a good size box stuffed with Styrofoam peanuts and the soil/pot was tightly bound with stretch wrap, centered in the box so temperature changes would only occur slowly. There were no disconnected leaves in the box, which surprised me, but maybe these are tough plants! I'll give it a month to acclimate to my conditions before I put 3 lbs of wire on it.
