Hacks Maples

I set a few late summer layers, July 25th, due to well you know the "sickness"..lol. Anyway, great fast results, saw some roots today.

How did these layers respond to the late layering?
When did you separate?
Did they survive the winter?

I couldn't find record of when I separated, but they all were separated at the end of the summer. I placed them in a grow bed in Nov. I'm guessing they grew roots in 7 weeks, I separated around 10? Placed in a container for a couple of months then transplanted to grow bed. They're doing well.

@Tbrshou ,I just realized those were set in 22, I did separate at the end of summer, but they grew in a container for a full season before transplant..

Ok thanks I just went and did 1 layer just to experiment. Hopefully it roots before fall
Living in 7a Cobb county a few years ago, I started several layers on a semi-dwarf cultivar in mid August one year, and all took by early October. You should be fine.

Picked up some new material this week. Around 15 seedlings to put together a forest in the spring and then this monster Saiho, I've never seen one at a nursery and couldn't say NO!

@Piedmont Bonsai you warning on this root reduction is appreciated, I certainly had to give it a few extra waterings this spring. Growing strong, I'll probably reduce that leader later this summer.
