K says to me -------------- look at the same type of tree, mature ones. Choose 10 things you like, draw and let its sit on the back burner.
About a week later draw from memory.
The mind will harmonise and give out what it wants.

I have watched K design a painting, he has a large awareness of designs etc. but it is what is - Believable - in the painting that matters,
He has gone into paintings made with iron oxides and other iron colours, much variety from just iron.

Should be interesting to see how many actually base their designs on trees or copies of Japanese efforts.

But did the artist plan it to that level of detail, is that something someone can really make use of when planning a painting or bonsai.

I would say most likely not. But there are artists and there is the rest of us who may appreciate it but are severely challenged to create it. So we analyze what it is that real artists do and formulate rules so that we can consciously change how we tend to present our ideas/feelings so that something of value is communicated (even if we are only talking to ourselves).

At least that is my context for 'the rules' and how I am trying to learn to participate in the art of Bonsai.
