Fun with Shapecrete

Just get some fiberglass cloth like the use for auto body repair, cut it up and Mix it in with 1 part Portland cement and one part peat moss. Basically the same stuff, but maybe even more reinforced due to being able to control the length of the fibers. And cheaper this way and just like clay

I'm pretty sure I have a few small bags of quick set cement and if it isn't water damaged I might give that a go.

I popped 2 more out of the molds yesterday. This morning I decided to just plant a cutting from one of my ficus into one of them just to see exactly how the untreated concrete would react with the tree (or vice versa lol) don't worry @Anthony I have about a million cuttings of these things lol20161218_075621_7_bestshot.jpg
Unseen in the picture, but the 1.5mm tie down wires elevated the pot so now it has some wire feet!
Let's see how this ficus takes to a still very alkaline container.

I should've taken a before pic of the ficus before I pruned it this morning, but it had grown about 8 inches in some spots! Seems to like the concrete pot no matter how messed up the ph is :p20170114_074932.jpg
It has also been a month since I made the pots and they have been soaking in water (with regular water changes) and should be mostly lime free by now. I'll probably pull them out of the water today and clean them up some.

I haven't tried making any molds, definitely should try though! Welcome to the forum by the way!

Well thanks for the welcome. I've never molded anything myself. I've just watched videos on how to do it. Expanding foam is fun all by itself. I was thinking of molds when you said you had to let it cure before adding feet to the pot. A mold would allow this done in one shot. I suppose colors could also be added to the crete. Perhaps even some aggregate and then exposing it. The possibilities are endless.

I made this mold jam out of some crown molding and a cardboard box wrapped in plastic. It's about 14x10 inches. Feet built right into the mold...View attachment 130432this shit pretty fun. I've made way more pots than I need . So I guess I better get more trees this spring...
That crown molding idea is ingenious! I need to find more time to make some more of these. Cheap, heavy duty , but still nice to look at!

That's genius right there!

Figured I'd bring this post back up now that these pots have soaked in the lake most of the spring. While fully saturated with pond water I applied some black tattoo pigment for a nice old look. Then left them to dry for a couple weeks before sealing. I'm pretty happy with the results so far. Well done! What kind of mold did you use for the first photo oval...and the third photo rectangle? Or...were these free-formed? I like the look....and I'm sure they feel good and look even better in person.

a bunch of containers that came up just shy of fitting inside each other,. Annnnd I used crown molding and a smaller cardboard box for the inner molds on some. Im currently looking for more options to make another round of molds
