The other Vance and I talked about this tree at some length.
If there's a graft it's the best one ever.
He's had it since 1986.
It's imported.

It's beautiful, I don't care if it floated over here as driftwood in the Pacific. I know for a fact it was not imported as you see it now Mr. Hanna has done a lot to make this tree the show stopper it is.

He sure has.
He has pictures of it through the years.

Is it 9am yet?? lol. I'm REALLY looking fwd to this. Been trying to get to a bonsai show for a couple years now but for one reason or another I always missed them. The base on that JWP is simply beautiful! Defiantly will have to remember to bring my camera with me tomorrow.

If you've never been to a show you're in for a treat!
This is there too. Along with a couple other trees you will recognize from the forum.
It'll be nice meeting you Steve.
Guy Vitale and Leonard B. from the forum will also be there.
You may want to bring some money too. There's some nice trees for sale.
I actually sold my largest shimpaku today. I just brought it to work on but the price was right. And I used the money to buy a tree or two that I wanted.
A real nice Mugo and I've yet to decide on the other tree or trees. There's a nice fat double trunk Amur maple. Or another Mugo with a 4 inch base. Or a double literati style Scots.
Decisions,decisions.

That's what I'm afraid of (buying more trees lol) That big trunk willow leaf I listed here sold on the bonsai auctions today for $100, that money is supposed to go to some bills.....but we'll see :)

I looked and looked.
The lines or crags in the bark all match up and it's all the same color. It's cool no matter. Here it is on display.
Plus a few more from today.20170812_145051.jpg Collected Eastern red cedar.20170812_145252.jpg Another white pine.

A kind of cool and different kind of display. This is this guys first ribbon at a show and I think maybe the first time he displayed a tree.20170812_145233.jpg

I had a great time at the show today. Some really beautiful trees on display for sure. It would have been so easy for me to drop a ton on money there today lol. Tree's were great but best part of the show was getting a chance to finally meet and hang out with Mike Frary and Vance Wood. I can honestly say it was a pleasure meeting you both, two nicer guys you could not meet. Mike I appreciate you taking time to help me with some advice and tips on my juniper. Your new pine you were working on is a beauty. Watching Vance work on some trees was mind boggling to me. It's amazing how easy he makes it look, I hope to have 1/50 the knowledge he has some day down the road! I'm glad my buddy Mark got a tree from Vance. That Juniper Mark got is only his fourth tree, but having one that Vance did a first styling on is going to put him way ahead of things for him.

Here's some more pics from the show today for everyone that couldn't make it (yeah talkin' bout' you Source :p)

Yeah, that's a better picture. Doesn't look grafted with more light.

Nice show!

Vance's raft is looking better, too. It looks like he repositioned a couple of the inward growing branches.

You make me sound and feel special---I am not but I really do appreciate your observations. Just remember there is nothing I do that you cannot do. I am not God or a god, what I do is within your reach if you believe it is. Thanks for coming.

I'm saving that for the train but it's great!
First time ever using raffia and wire that was even hard for me to manipulate.
I'm going to be doing that to a lot of trees in my yard. I'm going to start bending the shit out of everything now
I'm glad Vance talked me through it and helped me so much.
It's one thing to look videos or pictures of him working on trees. But when you get to sit there for hours watching in person it's way different. I learn new things every time I'm around him.
