Here's a Beech layer started in May

I noticed its produced a nice radial ring of roots, looking deeper today, Ive decided to pot it up carefully, I think theres enough rootage to give it a go...

I didnt open up the rootball or tease anything out, have just placed the whole ball intact into a container in a nice, free mix.

Snipped off a couple of heavy branches higher up, lets see if I can get some extension in the lower branches.
The plan will be to let the tree fatten up in this tub. Its a long term, but enjoyable project, its still a very young tree and appears to be vigorous and healthy.

The vision is to let it become like the trees I see in the parks...

Great result mate. Lets hope it will stand on new roots through the summer. Fingers crossed.

I think this one is going to be ok, we havent had much of a summer here, but the tree has thickened, indicated by those light wire marks, caught just in time. This also has rootage showing from the drain holes..the tree wants to push out a flush indicated by the light green buds on the tree, a couple shoots have in fact extended, but just hasnt been enough sustained sun.

I applied a little wire...
Snipped a few heavy twigs in the crown, will allow more free growth next season

Cheers mate, I used Vitax organic rooting gel. In the past ive used the Vitax powder but had run out, so tried the gel this time.
