Extended season starting trees indoors

The extra large red Hawthorne motherplant

deciced to drench this again,it’s been 5 days.Just dumped 5 gallons on it this time.
Also foliar sprayed the leaves again with the Fulvic and kelp.
Although it was quite cold,I believe the kelp still gets into the leaves and soft stems. After a few hours their was some water beads of spray still visible laying right into the axillary buds .
I may do this every 5 days so I get all the new forming leaves.

Those pines at 17 days is a remarkable acheivement! I got mine into a small tent now, humidity is a but high but I think its helping.

Can you give me some tips? What ec is your nutrient solution after transplanting? I'm noticing a bit of needle yellowing, maybe nitrogen deficiency, my EC is around 0.5.

Do you get any burn from your foliar feed? I'm kinda nervous having lost new growth when i wasnt spraying down with water after feeding.

I'll put some pics up on the 2020 from seed thread soon.

If using kelp....definately no more than once a week on the needles.1/8 tsp fulvic 1/16 tsp kelp.
How big are they?....show me a pic and I can help.

70% is limit internet sais’ everywhere, but I still say between about 40-60%
Or they overheat because stomata closed

Here are some of my 2020 cuttings, about 80 days from planting, and 60 days from cutting. I've got two that rooted in 10 days, the rest needed intensive care.

Here are some as they are now, yellow ones toward the end. They aren't wet so I don't think it's overwatering, but idk. Humidity has been high, up to 80%ish. I've reduced that today, down to about 50%. I haven't really got any fine control for that yet. Nutrient EC is 0.5-0.6, starter food, low nitrogen. Maybe I should up the nutes? I think I'm beginning to see the same on my spruces which haven't been cut yet.

Humidity too high...cannot transpire and they overheat.......what is tempersture?
Rh needs to be 40-60%
ec is good because extra fert will not help.still immature needles so fixhumidity and let me see light if possible and what is tempersture...arecstill salvageable

so today the humidity has been 51% (was 80%), temp is 19c (66f), was 28c (82f).
Lights are milliard 4x 4ft led, 16k lumens, link
https://www.amazon.co.uk/MILLIARD-Hydroponics-Light-fixture-tubes/dp/B00MX47B5S
If there is kelp in your fertilizer it can get on the needles it will dry it out because Kelp is a bad for needles unless it’s only once a week.
Yeah 70 to 75 is good for no CO2 growing environmentA combination of high humidity and high heat they became carb limited not light limited and they suffocated from humidity too high and did not get nutrients because they weren’t transpiring which actually sucks a lot of nutrients up the vascular system

ok, hopefully I'll get on top of it👍
Ok...I was out and about when I responded yesterday. It could also be lack of co2...even a tent full of tiny seedlings use a lot of co2.The remedy is to vent the tent a couple times a day to let ambient levels in.Also vent every evening all evening to let in oxygen.Co2 at day and oxygen at night..My first crop was pretty horrible
here is a before

1st attempt/ 2nd attempt .......same age lol

carpinus Coreana seeds

Pulled these out of stratification a bit early so I could see if any sprout.I decided to soak in some fulvic acid/ kelp at least a few more hours this morning and plant later on.
Hopefully these grow.As I did get some of these to root for propagation it seems better to start a bunch from seed to get a healthy start as cuttings can be a bit problematic with this species as far as setbacks with leaf damage from humidity and such, bringing out of the propogator.
All the seeds sank to the bottom instantly,so are still sealed shut.

Zelkova

these look great ,only getting .7 ec of nutrient.Lots of cuttings material. So I’m going to take fertilizer strength down to .4 and halt these for awhile.Have lights raised too in the 400-600 par range.I am finding the Zelkova like the less intense light, but with long duration they grow beautiful.Co2 is at 900 ppm.Use a 20 Lb. tank every two weeks ,so about $13 per week...not so bad.

Also some seedling getting into gear in case cuttings do not work out.

turbo klone

Ok,the new toy arrived today.Iremoved the few heavy callous cuttings from my other cloner and it’s concoction of nutrient solution in the reservoir.
There was big time callousing,so these ought to root.I am not convinced all the extra hormone in the water is really needed.Probably the cause of extensive callous and no roots. The same reason double dipping a clone at onset of callous tissue only inhibits proper root formation.
So I dug deep online and found a video of a guy who actually gets roots in 4 days!
He shared his formula and I will too.Just hopefully it gives results.
I am also thinking that since I can keep humidity high with the dome,I may be able to strike slightly softer wood.
At any rate I wish to give Red Hawthorne a try with the Zelkova. Both of which are getting pre treatment and foliar sprays to get the leaves very active and hopefully more carbohydrates in the stems.
I totally drenched the Hawthorne in the yard twice with mother formula fertilizer. And gave three foliar feeds already the Fulvic/kelp.Still have to wait a tad more though to get stems a bit more turgid, but I’m going to proceed with slightly softer wood and use dip& grow. The Author of the formula I share in pictures uses Clonex gel....long dips though. It does seem handy to stop embolisms though.
The water is now at 70f ,so still good.I keep the room about 66F degrees so no condensation in my walls from heat,so reservoir should not get very hot...It does have a fan I can utilize if need be on the cloner.
Not using any sterilizer with this formula so I do not want temps over 75f .

New Zelkova Seedling Air-Layers!

Made 15 of these for now. Some actually quite thin stemmed than I usually do.With my small grow tent that has the high humidity and co2 ,I feel confident these will root fast and in good condition. So hoping in about a week or so these will have significant roots. Then another week to bulk them up and then I will separate them and give root fertilizer for a month and then should be extremely vigorous.
I dip them in clonex gel and I am letting it soak in for at least several hours and then will put the cardboard cups on tonight with the perlite/orchid moss at 50/50

Trying hawthorne cutting again.

Benn preparing the motherplant(tree) a couple weeks.Tried a few that were still somewhat soft to see if that helps root these. Then the normal ones in a week or so.
They are hanging over this morning, but you never know.......if they callous they will stand up.Tree was majorly hydrated and had three foliar sprays of fulvic acid/kelp.
Dip&grow 20% strength about 5-7 minutes!
Humidity in the dome near 80%.
Water temp is always between 68-73f......not bad.
The grow room has an airconditioner

Zelkova Nebari

A few of the zelkovas’ had root fungus,so I tossed them.Creates crazy ph issues in the roots and affect nutrition,so I did not want to take chances of it spreading. Now I elevate the Rootpouch off the bottoms of trays. Some brown slime.I did take natural measures to combat the fungus and destroy it.
Anyway the roots on these are very nice and even ..........being air-layers.I inspected one of the trash ones this morning.
Very pleased with progress only being 6 MONTHS!! from sewn seed.
In coming seasons with proper care and nutrition these will be very nice. They have an excellent start and are very dense and healthy.

Aeroponic cloning results.

ok 19 days getting roots, but with two different cloners and reservoirs. The first was too much hormone, which I think will be fine without.
So changed to a different one I like better and not so much callousing from hormone...I think an extended dip&grow is just fine @20% strength is fine....like 5 or more minutes........These had about 10 minutes. The water spray protects from alcohol burn I think.
here is recipe...Temps should not go over 75 really since no water sterilizer.
This will be my preferred method.......I personally like domes on these and an air conditioned room with constant running pump.My water is 71f now.
the guy online gets roots in 4 days this recipe ,so next batch will be better prepared.

Red Hawthorne aeroponic cloning

I have a hunch these will root since the zelkova do and I have been preparing the mother in the yard.Did 4 foliar feed 5 days apart already of fulvic acid/kelp along with two deep drenches of mother fertilizer loaded with bio stimulants and aminos to increase calcium and brix.
Wish me luck....as I am already preparing to ship these.....probably rather small.Who does not like Pauls Scarlet Hawthorn( crataegus x media).
I will keep preparing the tree outside. It is not entirely that old of a speciman....maybe 10 years tops.
These slightly more ripe cuttings are better as they stand up and regenerate from wilting when they stabilize......it seems slightly soft wood will root better though with hard to root varieties...so definately a fine line.I soak in 20% dip & grow for up to 10 minutes which definately helps...the cloner sprays and keeps from alcohol burn in the stems I believe...so may be the secret...also 1:1 nitrogen to potassium ratio and heavy calcium uptake from amino acids in the mothers will improve chances tremendously......Fulvic acid/kelp once a week also tremendously improves photosynthesis and brix of leaves in mothers....definately low ec of maybe .4 for the drenches.
Really hope these go...
Maybe at end of day today after a whole day of photosynthesis..I will make more....always just at end of light cycle can really speed up rooting.
When in shade or darkness energy translocates down the stem and by morning is really depleted of carbs that really improve rooting time and success.
I tried softer ones to see what happens and they proved not turgid enough to regenerate from wilting. So only a couple more ripe ones are left in the cloner till this evening when I make about 10 more that are turgid enough;)

red Hawthorne aeroponic cloning

Ok,so made a bunch more. Will fill this cloner with them over several days as wood ripens on mother.
Did about 15 minute dip in 20% dip&grow.
All have 3-4 nodes submersed in cloner...very nice chance of root sites!
