EWP gets a new pot today

Sorry @Orion_metalhead I'm just now seeing your post.
I've been picking the leaves, flush to the soil, and

I misspoke. It was RoundUp not broad leaf killer 🤔
I wonder if that...naaaa, surely that would not replicate the disease and half brown needles, would it?
Too many other conifers especially pines had similar browning of needles with yellow bands.

I have a fair amount of back budding, and could this be a second flush already, or bud set?

Good reason not to wire this time of year

Now if my junipers survive the mite infestation, things will be on the up.
Not mites!

She Looks ok to me. By now all the candles have fully extended and almost hardened off.....Might be able to wire her this late Fall....
Thanks Vance, I wired it some last Fall, nothing major based on wire size.

Notice the main trunk reddish brown where bark should be. Then there's white that travels on up the trunk and out this branch.
It is outlined with a darker brown band. There's some lichen but nothing plating or damaging as far as lichen is concerned.

So glad the tree made it this far. Thanks for documenting it over the years. This is an exciting project!

What does it smell like? Is it punky?
To me, all pines in the strobus family have a hint of sunbaked Gouda cheese in their resin.

It could be sunburn damage on the trunk, that's now rolling over with callus. Callus leaks sometimes to add a protective layer to it.

Smeller not worth mention
but its not pithy under thumbnail.

If the bark peeled or loosened all the way around
Would the tree die above that point?

I'm not sure if it would die above that point. I think it's a matter of wait and see. EWP, from my limited 3 year experience with them, are pretty tough.
