Elaeagnus - silverberry shohin

Almost fall and blooming well this year, I so love the subtle scent of these.

Mine flowers right around Christmas. It is honestly one of the best-smelling things I have ever encountered! My wife even had me bring the tree inside the house :)
 
Judy, you Elaeagnus is inspiring. Wonderful.

I really need to dig a few out of the landscape, have them on the farm. I've got E. umbellata, which flowers in spring, but otherwise is pretty similar. I just need to get busy and dig.
Yes get after those! Would like to see more of these in bonsai culture.

“Brand new leaves” ??? Is yours deciduous or have you defoliated it? Mine keeps its leaves, although it’s kept in the temperate greenhouse. I seem to remember you stating somewhere that you defoliate yours numerous times over a growing season. Am I mistaken? If not, how often and when do you start?

There is different types i think judy's is dropping the leaves in fall...
I have one too that keeps the leaves year round
