Do you have plans to improve your Bonsai Garden (display area) in 2018?

I would like to hear people's thoughts and ideas to improve there personal bonsai area in 2018. To me, the area that our trees are displayed are just as important as the trees and pots themselves.

This year I plan to create a large flagstone patio throughout my bonsai area, incorporate some large stones, and add two benches. One bench will be a traditional wooden one and one will be smaller with a stone top.

I keep a bonsai garden inspiration folder on the computer and this one has used a lot of flagstone. If anyone knows the owners name please let me know!

When moving in those big rocks. Make sure to remove some of the ground where they go. So they are planted and not sitting in top. Allows for a much more naturalistic look.

Our guy who put in our waterfall and landscape large rocks. I made sure he planted them. The way my yard is...doesn't allow for bonsai benches in the landscape areas. The benches are on my back patio and one side of the deck. Pondering another bench...but where it would go...I need to see what sort of sun it gets before one goes there. My trees are not all together becasue of our landscape look.

I love how moss and lichen grow on our large rocks around here. But you have the tropical bonsai scene down pat in your climate.

I plan to level out my garden, add some stepping stones and add shade cloth. Most of my decisions got burnt last year. Also want to add a new bench with an upper layer for my good stuff. .

I totally agree and wow that is a huge rock! I like.

After taking some more with my wife I am considering pea gravel instead of patio. Here is my main area . What do others think?

Pea gravel is always moving around. I don't like it at all. Any other stone but Pea Gravel.

Our rocks in our beds are #8's. Many use crushed limestone for patio areas. Pea gravel one might twist an ankle in. We have pea gravel between our flagstone. I recall putting it in. When it spread out how difficult it slipped under foot. Unless you mean under your bench areas. I guess I am not understanding where you intend it to go.

He had to drag it up the road. Lol a bit of testosterone going on. Wanting to use the largest of rocks found in our wooded lots. I think that was the largest used.

Mt neighbor has pea gravel I constantly shovel out of my driveway and back to his yard. LOL I put some in my grow beds though

I plan to build a bench or two or four. Add more trees to flavor. We have to move to a smaller place sadly, so I really need to come up with a plan to maximize the space we have while we're still renting. I love seeing other people's garden spaces on Bnut though. Really gives me hope that I can build the garden of my dreams someday.

I probably should be thinking about a display area...now....while trees are ground growing and I have time available. Added to my planning list....and gathering ideas.

I have plans to set-up some actual benches for my trees this spring, before I pull all the trees out of winter storage. Due to a limited budget, the materials will consist of stacked cinder blocks and pressure treated wood boards. This way, I should be able to assemble adequate bench space for around $100 or less. It won't be pretty, but it should be functional. I will have to consider how to keep the local population of cats from jumping up and digging and knocking stuff over.

Whatever I manage to put together, it will have to be better than the rickety plastic shelves I resorted to using last season. Those would have really made everyone on here cringe.
