Difficult... Can a bonsai be kept on the outside of a vehicle?

Could go biodome with it, and build a little plexiglass space bubble around the tree to keep the wind off.

Someone mentioned vibration wreaking havoc on the roots. The right substrate should minimize those effects. Something heavy in soft organics to help absorb the vibration, and that won't cut into the roots if jostled.
You'll have to get creative wiring the tree in, too. My wiring skills suck balls, so I'll let someone else go there.

All of my years in bonsai, and I have yet to see one of these guys :(
I have seen several. One here in Georgia, one in Florida, and one in California. The California guy called his business “Napa Bonsai”. He said he spent 6 months in California and 6 months in Hawaii every year. Business must be good!

We actually did this past summer at the Lake of the Ozarks, white van and all. We stopped and he had a bunch of little junipers, I had no interest in whatsoever. My husband decided we needed one. 🤔 When we went past again the police were there and he was gone shortly thereafter....

Quite possibly the dumbest bonsai idea I've ever heard of 😁 Forget the practical aspects of any tree surviving the tortuous conditions of sun wind, constant agitation road grime, theft, etc., the "message" such a stressed out, beaten down, dying tree stuck on the side of a van doing 65 mph on the highway would send would not only reinforce dimwitted ideas that bonsai is tree torture, but also the owner of the vehicle-borne dead plant doesn't really give a shit about living things.

He's not wrong.
I really think we're all just having fun playing with a bad idea. I don't suspect there's really any way to make it work, but sometimes entertaining the impossible is a learning experience all it's own.

Ooh! Maybe something viney would be better. I hear that kudzu stuff down south is nuke safe like cockroaches.

I think this is a fabulous idea that can absolutely work and that most naysayers don't understand the political message and why it is an important and truthful one, which is why they naysay, it has nothing to do with facts that it won't work.

I'll make the pot if you pay for shipping.

Uh, yeah source, I get the "political message"-- I mean it's not subtle and most morons like me get it. Political messages are rarely truthful and vanishingly important these days...

Well truth, I don't even know how OP "understands" the message.

I think the vanishing importance stems from how they've begun to craft everything in a way that any propaganda actually amplifies whatever beliefs you currently hold.

This is purposeful to further divide us.

I deleted my Netflix but before it was gone, I caught the new movie "Don't Look Up".

If you watch it looking for this phenomena you can see it.

Anyway, I'm not talking about "understand" at the shallow level I believe most people view it as.

Of course, I don't believe it's easy for regular folks to have a civil discourse about it, but I am open to it.

Um, err, "phenomena?" You familiar with Satire? It's hardly some kind of hidden message...The purpose is not to divide us, but to point out silly bullshit...the movie "Wag the Dog" was the same--satire...It's long been a form of humor...Many are threatened by it when they're the target...

Of course you do. You pretty much take the contrary position in any discussion here.

I do appreciate your arguments, though. They keep us all on our toes, even if some hate playing ballerina.

This should be enough proof to make it worth a shot.

The rest of the arguments sound like minor inconveniences no different than anywhere else in bonsai.

Please don't do that to a live tree. I'd suggest getting a fake one.

All of my years in bonsai, and I have yet to see one of these guys :(

I've been told my numerous people there's a guy who does that in my town. Never seen him. Curious if he's guerilla or has actual permits/licensing.

You mean road debris, exhaust, fender benders, theft, constant exposure to 100 F plus asphalt temps, inadequate watering? The list of "minor" -- but possibly instantly fatal-"inconveniences" goes on...

I found THAT.. Looking for THIS clip.

 hydroseeding bluegrass to a car is not putting a bonsai on the backend of a car near the ground in a pot...sorry. GRass ain't a tree. There is no soil involved, nor a container, nor is that container spread over the upper surface of the vehicle. Alot going on here comparing grass to trees or apples to oranges
