Deciduous yamadori in the US

So,,, the story goes like this: I'm at the local Mom & Pop about two years ago looking for something interesting to work on. I stumble across these three hybrid blueberry bushes with (and I'm not joking) 3" - 4" trunks and 6" - 8" nebaris. The trunks were all twisted with shari and jins (naturally). Trying to maintain my cool I asked if they were for sale. The answer was yes and no. They were given to the nursery owner to see how well they would do in north Florida by a grower. He was to keep them for a number of years and could sell them when the grower was happy that they would do well in our zone. The nursery owner said I could have first pick when he sells them and they would be $75 each. Well, this year was the year he could sell them so in the spring I went down to check and see if I could still get them. They were gone! I looked everywhere and couldn't find any sign of them. I asked the owner where they were and he said the grower asked for them back so he had to give them to him. :(
That's quite the bummer! There are actually a lot of blueberry orchards around here, one of these days I may approach one of them and ask if they have any old bushes they'd be willing to part with. I've searched nurseries and never found anything worth working with.

Those were the only ones I've seen of that size and quality. I'll bet you could find a real winner at one of the orchards.

Sweetgum was collected and grown by Vaughn Banting and donated to the National Arboretum's collection. If you search on Vaughn's name, you can find that same tree in early photographs along with a lot of his other trees--including Tupelo (black gum). The early photos of the sweetgum show how is has developed over the last 30 years or so.

Yep, most deciduous are grown but I am envious of the collected ones being found in Europe. Hoping someone can post something that competes with those that was collected in the US. I love Larch but it only half counts ;)

This is exactly what I do, except I use a paddle board. Its a good workout too. Found two really nice Thuja this way. Posted one on this site, when asking for permission on the other one got a really odd stare back as well as a big fat no.... haha

I was thinking just that...I'm an avid hiker...we've canoed a few times. But typically with the family and we're to busy trying to cut the other one off up ahead to be first. Lol will have to keep an eye open for such trees while on the water. Yes sir...as soon as Thuja was mentioned your tree popped into my head. Not my own grouping...ssssshhh don't say a word to them about it. Lol your tree is stunning...you lucky dog you! Glad you got it...which allowed me to view it.

Man....if you let your phone change likes to licks.....it really comes out worse!

I know you're joking.....but......I'm a Cadi "Fanboy".....be nice!

Lol...not sure exactly what this is about...but your alright Sorce..."Fanboy" lol

A vicious Cadillac-licking troll banner? Well, she sounds hideous.

My sides are splitting from what I'm reading of a one way conversation I'm seeing. I'm shaking in my shoes...can I hide behind anyone's larger bonsai tree to not be spotted...oh wait...I think..."I"...am the Cadillac-licking troll banner...PLEASE HIDE YOUR MIRRORS so I can't see myself. Bawahahahahaha

Honestly...to the one I now ignore...I am only but one person on this great forum. Don't get so hung up on my ignoring you. I'm only two years in...and there are many more far wiser...that you and I can honestly not have words and the world will still revolve around the sun...PROMISE!

Good day!

An apprentice in Japan calls his teacher "Oyakata", which translates to lord and master. .

Not trying to be the Japanese Language nazi here, but some clarification on the characters may give the word more meaning. 親方 may translate as lord or master, but the first character is associated with parent. 両親 Ryoshin is another word for (both) parents. The second character means way of. So a better translation may be "The way of a Parent" or a "Surrogate Parent"...

Sorry if this does not clarify any bonsai related discussion.

I gotta disagree. I've seen many really great ones, right along hiking trails. Some really amazing instant shohin, some really great larger junipers and pines, or course, but also dwarf rugged little oaks, elms, all sorts of great deciduous trees. "Wish I had a shovel and permit" is my most commonly uttered phrase when walking in the national parks.

You will NOT get a collection permit in the National Parks System!

The last thing we need is collecting in National Parks, especially along heavily used trails.

Maybe learn some manners when talking to or about a lady.
Oh come on Mike. I was perfectly civil to her. She just did not like the fact that I did not believe in her miracle. Well, I'm sorry about that, but that's just life. Not everyone is going to agree with you all the time. That whole debate was perfectly above the belt and polite. That was what was really cool about it.

Thanks Mike...can only imagine what was said on this thread about me. Honestly...I don't know why this poster is struggling with such issues. You know where I stand...seems juvinelle to be continuing on about something. That poster posted on a few threads of mine I started since learning of my placing him on my ignore list...lastly, about my families grief (Which had another member commenting in a way that made whatever he posted sound not one of wishing to pass along condolences) ...yeah, I think I pegged him right. All the bonsai topics I have posted here and I don't believe any ignored content notification came up. Had he showed me a better side of himself than...how we first started off. I would have been fine possibly giving him a second chance. But from those comments to this particular one found here in this thread that had ones sending me PM's. I lose no sleep over this one. I do appreciate ones co

ming to my defense...my philosophy is...let's not feed a troll. If he pokes at me with sticks...please ignore them. Though I do appreciate ones defending me. BUT...I believe it's only feeding him and what he craves.

Sorry for hijacking your thread Matt...now back on topic.

Edit: But...if it's a new troll, feel free to put them in their place of you choose. But comes a time we stop feeding them.

Ok, so Cadilactaste obviously thinks I'm being really rude and nasty about her. As she has me on ignore I reckon she's forming the wrong conclusions, and of course I can't correct her. Perhaps one of you kind folk may do me the favour (and I guess her too to put her mind at rest) of just letting her know that all I'm doing is having a giggle about being called a troll. I'm not flaming her or insulting her or being the general dregs of humanity on a bonsai forum. Perhaps then she can at least relax, and not worry about me being nasty. Go on Source. You're a big ol softy.........you can just forward her this text. She can keep me on ignore if she prefers I guess, makes no real difference to me.
