Potted the old elm today. I think the pot fits fine.

The trunk and nebari. Nebari could be better.

The pot does look the right size now. I love this tree, can we get a pic straight on from the front some time ? Thanks.

I think the color of the pot is perfect, but I think it would look better with something a little more shallow. How long have you had this tree in training? It looks great.

Caitlin was always my favorite elm, I didn't know there was a contorted one, very nice. Will you style it further?

I've only had the tree for a year. It sat in an old bonsai enthusiast's backyard for almost the last 60 years getting cut back when yhe thought about it. I like this tree and pot combo but a shorter pot could work.

Aparently contorted one's are pretty rare especially this size.I won't be doing anything major, just some pruning and maybe using twine as guy wires to move a few branches.

Nice composition!
Thanks.

It looks like every single branch has been cut back many times. Is the bark corky ?

I really like the contrast of the refined pot and the contorted tree. Would love to see it straight on. But I like the off-centered planting. Really looking forward to seeing this one continue...

They have been . The bark isn't corky just old.

Is this better?

Truly beautiful! Hopefully you are starting cuttings every time you prune. Trees like this can live forever through propagation.

Were you able to get any root cuttings? I can be down there if so. Just put them in dirt.

I love the tree and I love the pot, but I am not too crazy about them together. May be when the tree fills out more or grows a wider silhouette, then the tall shape of the pot would fit.

Standing on the stool is not safe! You're a big guy too, don't do that!:)

You don't have to come all that way for that. I'm in Visalia quite a bit.
I'll let you know the next time I'm going up that way to see Kenji- sometime in the next couple of weeks more than likely.

Sorry Si I have to disagree with you I think they rock together- even better after it fills out a bit.

I'm crazy about this tree and pot together. Better after it has time to settle in and grow some, but it's wonderful.

I'll chime in with a third, please try rooting your cuttings.

I don't want your whole tree, just a few rooted cuttings.

We'll see how the cuttings do. I took both root and branch cuttings. If they take well enough I may have some to sell in the late spring.

I have to wholeheartedly agree with Si, I love both individually but not together. It's a cascade pot after all. And a bright glaze on a non flowering, fruiting, color changing tree???? Breaks a lot of basic design rules which equals negative emotions/vibes for the viewer. Clearly not everyone dislikes it. More seem to like it than dislike it. But as long as you like it that's what counts
