Collecting Hazards

PS: Gators are pretty much giant frogs with teeth. Only mothers protective over their nests will have a go at you, and even they really aren't all that terrifying. It's crocodiles like the Nile in Africa and Saltie in Australia that are the epic ambush predators that will end you without warning. Gators are relatively predictable and will make like a dart for the water as soon as they see you... Whiiiich is often before you see them and the sudden splash is what becomes the instant pucker factor.

As a UK resident it's so strange to read this - people carrying guns... v few people have them here - mainly farmers, police and criminals.

Your government does not allow you to have them if I remeber correctly. It's kind of not a choice.

A few mountain lions are starting to be seen around these parts but the sightings are very rare. Nothing like out west. We do have black bears. The black bear capitol of Michigan is 10 miles down the road. They are pretty harmless except in the spring but are mainly only dangerous to bird feeders.
I guess the worst thing you need to look out for in the woods here are the meth lab workers! They don't bite though because they have no teeth. And you can smell one from 100 feet away!
Hell of a story Dan.

The story is out! Check it out in the new issue of the ABS Journal: http://www.absbonsai.org/

Good job! I go mountain biking in the mountains here and I am always seeing deer and coyote, but never mountain lions - which is good because we have had rare attacks by mountain lions on bikers in the area.

You are so fortunate to have had the Cougar or Mountain Lion experience and obtained those photos...
OTOH I'm glad to hear you were armed with the SW M&P 40...nice and adequate handgun for the Cougar...
IMO he definately had you on his mind for an afternoon meal.

In Southern California, if he behaved that way, he'd be dead. No kidding. The rangers expect all mountain lions to flee at the first sight of man. If one sticks around, particularly after you have already fired a warning shot, they kill it.
