Once again the zelkova projiect is on the backburner……….an entire flat burned and shriveled……not sure why…I may have sprayed with npk by accident.

I have about five of them I am growing out and I looking quite long they literally have 7 inch trunks on them and I am going to experiment I will get a crop of these eventually

What is the recommended planting procedure with these jbp being in the rock wool cubes?
If leaving in the blocks( which is fine)…..definately ph the water or nutrient…….water daily or even twice daily as it grows.
If potting into media just take the grey plastic off and set into a bonsai media or volcanic type…..do not be concerned of inner or outer moisture differences from the cube or the media surrounding………water when either needs it first…….so a fast drain media is best….preferably volcanic or fast draining………preferably hydro style or salt fertilizer with added bio stimulants of at least some kelp powder with every watering mixed with the nutrient base.

No npk on leaves……no chlorine………phphphphphphphphphphph………no overfertilizing the salts either…….not trying to ripen a veggie here!!!
Less salts more frequent means more water in the plant…..salt constricts water uptake…..so the plant will ripen with oils and terpines……I do not belive trees need this enhanced in any way as they do it naturally……..leas salt and more water is always best.

Here is how I planted these 2nd grow season regular, non-cutting seedlings today (growing in 3” blocks).
I used #3 perlite and mixed some Grodan Grow Wool with it about 50/50 for some added water retention….planted into a very aerated Rootpouch.
Ckeck the size of the seedlings!!!
Only 2nd season.

I’m hearing pumice and scoria, non-chlorinated water and a good well rounded fertilizer regimen with plenty of micros and keep the salts to a minimum. Just plop it in cube and all and keep it watered. I think I can do that 😉

JAPANESE RED PINE SEEDLINGS THIS AUTUMN ALONG WITH BLACK PINES AND MORE CUTTINGS TOO.

The un-cut seedlings are great especially when I get the trunks very short.
Can see the 2nd season ones here.
They come out very nice being started in co2 for a few mnths.

Holy moly. Mine arrived today (under 48 hours of actual transit time). @cmeg1 thanks for sending what must have been your top two specimens. Yeesh, if anyone is on the fence, go buy these. If you think you know how to grow JBP seedlings, buy some, they are almost like a different cultivar they are so different to a hobbyist approach of JBP seedlings. Everything Curtis has said about these bears out 110%. The low branching will be a dream for Shohin. I can't promote these enough.

Curtis, do you recall when these seeds were germinated?

Around first week of January they were germinated and then made cuttings about 2 weeks later……they rooted quickly and then transplanted.Indoors till late may.
Can see the dates on the pictures.A22A3F64-4278-4AE2-8ADD-93811112F663.png0B582733-9699-4390-AC7C-9919B31F9A46.png

Oh man. My self grown are about a month behind. I'll have to put a side by side of what they look like, the difference is staggering and much more than I realized.

My best NON seedling cutting from Feb, in sun for 2 months, next to CM Bonsai seedling in sun for 1 month.
