Chinese Hackberry

HMMMMM Howd I miss this one! I love the carving you've done and it's a fantastic tree.

I've had this tree for quite a while, it was my first "real" bonsai tree, and started off a long fruitful relationship with Don. That big uro on the left is natural, I haven't touched it at all, the other carvings I've just tried to be fitting with the feel.
I remember this tree for sale almost purchased
From Bobby when he had it? Or from Don? I almost got a different tree than this one that time, so glad I picked this!

This tree is the main reason I went looking for a hackberry of my own. The big, gnarly trunk and the wildness of the canopy work so well together... this reminds me of one of Walter Pall's collected gems... fantastic!
Yes, it's hard to get the feeling it gives off in pretty photos, but it is nice that it comes across. Thanks Dave.

It was for sale on dons website for a bit a few years back

Funny when I went back to my records, I see that I actually had two "real" trees before this one... But neither one is in my collection anymore, guess this was the first one that I really identified with. This one I got in 11.

Looking good! This one reminds me of a large old maple in our yard.

Wonderful Juds! I like everything about it. I saw a few at Fuyo-en that were incredibly ramified. You can develop such fine detail with them! How is their autumn color?

In good leaf years, a nice clear yellow. It's a nice accent against hornbeams and maple coloring. The twigging is so super fine.

This isn't one of the trees that I worked on with Owen yesterday, but when we were looking at the collection, he suggested pulling the lower right branch down. So I got it out today, and it's a great shift. I'm growing a couple branches where the apex seems to lift off the canopy, to fill that area, so disregard the gap for now. And I also see that topish branch on the left side that is going out of the silhouette, I'll go cut that back!
Thought I'd share a few photos. Dog gets to be in the greenhouse with me when I'm in there, he's much happier when he can just sleep at my feet giving me the droopy eye. With his poodle butt, lol.

Well I went out and wired the upper branch down into the gap, and it's better now. Funny what photos show you that eyes do not.
For sure! I often take photos and consult them as I'm working on my trees. Cameras are brutal critics. Tree looks great, feel sorry for the puppy. Hope he's recovering well.

Thank you Brian. he's doing great, just hates being confined, but the leg is healing well. Only 8 more weeks to go!
