Or shall I say it once was, about 10 yrs ago.;)

This procumbens is dominated by mature foliage which really resembles shimpaku foliage.

I only have a few junipers left in my collection, and this one for sure is my favorite.

Absolutley outstanding!.. I have been working for about 4 years on a yew from Home Depot...Well, I guess every 1 in 10,000 HD trees can become great bonsai..:D

Nice but too much foliage..can't see the trunk at all.

Precisely. That's exactly the way I planned it. If this tree were judged by any means from it's trunk structure, it would be a throw away tree. I'm not sure what I saw in this tree 10 yrs ago when I bought it from someone who had done the initial styling which left a trunk looking more like a discarded hose rather than a juniper tree trunk. It was gosh awful looking, but It was in my price range and I guess I had the patience back then to see 10 yrs down the road to something that I would delight in on my bonsai bench some day.:)

I've never seen a procumbens before that had scale foliage. Can you get a closer shot of the foliage?

Procumbens that have this type of foliage have usually been worked on by an individual for a few years at least, mainly by pinching and keeping the tree to its allotted size.
You won't see this type of foliage on your garden center procumbens for this reason. The sad thing though is they sometimes will revert back to the juvenile foliage either the whole tree doing so but most often in small areas. This tree being worked on for 10 years has allowed it to be mostly the adult type foliage.:D
