Bonsai New Year’s Resolution 2019

So, you guys don’t want me posting about pines, or about wiring... ok, those are the only things I know anything about!

So, I guess the only topics left for me to post are tropicals, and the use of mud men in advanced display!
There's always "aloe as bonsai" and I guess an aloe is a tropical, so that covers two bases.

Plus you can always post when someone uses guy wires poorly :)

Going through my tree photo's, I noticed I don't have much of a growth progression on my trees. Hopefully, I can make myself take photo's of every tree at every season at least.

My resolution is to not waste growth, the growing season is short enough in the UK without letting the wrong areas grow out too much! Will have to stop saying I am to tired after a long day at work and can only water them. Don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today

Pretty short here also, i find myself getting a late start in spring. :(

Here we go again, I promised myself not to get more trees. And then I took maple cuttings. I told myself, self, this is the last. And today this happened...

If it doesn’t root, then I technically didn’t break my resolution. But I’m really hoping that this one takes

I am quite proud of myself. Yesterday the Triangle Bonsai Society had their auction. They had a lot of nice pre-pre bonsai that I would have scarfed up last year. They also had 2 magnificent trees that were nearly show ready except for the pots. I made up my mind going in that these were the only trees I would bid on. Both trees went to people with deeper pockets than me. I did come away with a very nice turntable though.

What tree is that?

My club does a series of 101 bonsai courses each year but they're always booked solid. My goal is to get to the first meeting extra early and get my name into the 2019-2020 class group.

Suffering from a bit of cabin fever, we got out of the house today. Lowes had a few trees with the obligatory Peace rocks. But some were a decent size, and not bad at all, and pretty cheap. BUT, I walked out empty handed, something I wouldn't have done last year, so kind of proud of myself. The bonsai nursery near me starts having open shop days in February, so I can't promise I'll walk out of there empty handed. But at least it will be something decent.

Get the trees into good soil and feed them regularly. Note I didn't talk about wiring or anything else. At this point I just want to have something decent in the next 5 years until the kids are in school and I have more time.

I’ve stopped trying to resist propagating everything. Instead I use all that to feed club raffles and resolve to keep only the best. I also resolve to only comment on things if I have direct, practical knowledge of the subject.
