Bonsai New Year’s Resolution 2019

Hmmm let’s think...
1. I got permission to dig up some Forsythia clumps in the spring. So one resolution is to collect successfully on my first time collecting.

2. Go slower on junipers! I had two junipers revert to scale last year because I moved too fast with them. This year I am taking my time!!!

Improve、 improve、improve. Grow、grow、grow. Better nebari、 branches、& wounds.

Forsythia is easy to collect no big taproots and strong growers recover well from collection so good choice to do a first collect ;)

Times 2: Begin long slow expensive process to buy actual Bonsai pots for trees ready for sameo_O. Development work in much greater amount on present trees;)!

Last year, I said I would stay clear of the “soil wars” threads! I think I pretty much did!

I’m trying to think of what topic I should ignore next year...

- Wire more stuff
- Successfully collect a conifer (larch or spruce, probably)
- Successfully repot a mugo
- Successfully air-layer a juniper
- Successfully repot a nursery juniper while reducing the roots heavily
- Put a potentilla in a bonsai pot
- Not lose a single tree because of neligent care
- Be on top of things in terms of fungicide/insecticide with my deciduous trees (goddamn apple trees)
- Not end up the year with more than an additional 5 trees or so (could mean getting rid of some projects I have now)

Procumbens? Clip-and-grow vs. wiring?

Fer
That’s not controversial. I’m thinking that a topic like “is bonsai a craft? Or art?” Those kind of topics get everyone all fired up.

Fertilizing can get pretty hot and heavy, but craft/art is way more divisive!!!

Those topics don't seem to generate the level of interest they used to. I think (most) people are realizing it's pointless. Same with the "American bonsai" issue.

As for myself, I resolve to continue to rid myself of the lesser material I've accumulated over the years, maybe add a nice tree or two, buy some pots, stay out of fights on bonsainut and facebook...I think that's enough for now!

Wiring.... you'll probably only post a few times a month, though. We will miss you!
So, you guys don’t want me posting about pines, or about wiring... ok, those are the only things I know anything about!

So, I guess the only topics left for me to post are tropicals, and the use of mud men in advanced display!
