Bonsai Central, Collinsville, IL (near St. Louis) USA, May 3-5, 2024

Bought my ticket, my only disappointment is that every one of Young Choe's workshops overlaps with one of the other bonsai workshops I'd slightly prefer to be at. Otherwise I'm really looking forward to it, Hopefully Marija and I get along well because we will be spending a lot of time together. 🤣

Tagging a few people who I haven't seen in this thread and don't live too far from here. Hope some of you can make it!
@Leo in N E Illinois , @James W. , @HorseloverFat , @sorce , @hemmy
I’m all registered! Got in back in Nov. and in a couple workshops. Now I just need my work schedule to line up. Fingers crossed. I probably won’t know anyone, so I’m open to meeting some fellow ‘Nuts!

I am all signed up now as well :). 2 workshops, 2 critiques, and a walk through -- very excited!

After smoothing out some logistics I am back on the table. I will have a good spread of pots. Really looking forward to the mud wrestling tournament. My money is on Tyler.

Hooray!
Hmmm...something looks off about that schedule. I can't quite put my finger on it.

Is there any possibility of the show and vendors being open to the public or at least a smaller admission price? Some people just want to shop and admire trees! 😉

I'm curious about this too. There is the option to get a guest pass for the banquets, my partner has no interest in any workshops or anything but they definitely would want to go through the show any enjoy it. Plus I need them there in the vendor area to approve purchases.

Yes, on Saturday (perhaps beginning at noon? TBD) and on Sunday, we will sell general admission tickets that will allow access to the exhibition hall and vendor areas. These tickets will be heavily discounted compared to the full admission fee, but with the general admission ticket you will not be able to sign up for workshops. We are not selling them yet, but I can post here when they go live.

At our last convention (ABS 2019?), apparently there were a number of folks who came in for the general admission price and bought up lots of vendor wares early on the first day, which was kinda uncool to the full-paying convention participants. Therefore this year we are giving people who are paying for the full convention experience "first dibs" on the vendors, and then opening it up to the general public to help the vendors and help boost bonsai exposure, etc.

I'll ask what happens if you have a spouse/partner travelling with you as far as Friday and Saturday morning goes @KikurageOtomo , will PM when I hear back.

Please let us know when these general admission tickets are available and for how much so we can let folks know!

Dear procrastinators,
After tomorrow (Feb 3rd), early registration pricing ends and you will have to pay more for this awesome convention. Register today and use your extra money towards getting yourself a nice @Sansokuu or @NaoTK or @Waldo Street Pottery pot or perhaps a nice new tree.
Sincerely,
Mike and the BC '24 Team

We have three quick updates for you all. First, we have extended our early registration window until February 24th. After the 24th, registration price for all three days (includes Friday awards, demos, and dinner and Saturday demos, auction, and dinner) will increase from $285 to $325. Register today and save yourself some money or get that pot, tree, stand, accent, tool that you've been wanting!

Second, we have added a new workshop with Marija Hajdic to our program! Bring a tree of your own to work on with Marija on Saturday at 2pm! Marija has a fantastic eye for working on "yamadori" trees and non-traditional styles. Don't miss this chance to work with her in her North American bonsai debut! Also we may be adding another Saturday workshop with Kusamono expert, Young Choe, so keep your eye out for that!

Lastly, we have accepted over 50 world-class trees to our exhibition thus far, but we still have room for a few more! Trees are coming from Minnesota, Michigan, Georgia, Louisiana and everywhere in between! We have extended our Tree, Kusamono, and Suiseki exhibit submission window until our show is full and we will continue to review submissions approximately every 2 weeks. You can submit through our submission portal or email to SUBMISSIONS@BONSAI-CENTRAL.COM . All accepted trees will be professionally photographed on site and featured in a commemorative book (pre-orders for books should hit the website within the next month).

Thanks and Happy Repotting Season all!
