Big box bonsai mix

Shoot. They are all out of stock!

So I Figured I’d just get the sumo cakes T-shirt instead, but then realized it was probably way to big.
🤨

What kind of trees are you using the cakes for?

Well I haven’t used them before, but I guess I would likely use them on conifers.

Then you would like the Acidic blend and those are in stock. I do have Original, I just need to get them bagged up.

@Eckhoffw do you have an update on your current soil mix? I'm in SD so similar climate but a little colder!
You can send a message if you don't want to open this can of worms again. Being in rural SD my access is limited but we do have Menards, tractor supply, Napa, etc!

Holy cow! It’s been a long time since I’ve checked on this thread.

Two years later, I’m still a fan of auto absorbents for soil.

I was pretty much out of soil. so I recently purchased a bag of DE8822 and a bag of oil dry premium.

It’s been a while, but I stand by my previous findings that the oil dry premium is definitely a nicer product to work with!

Today I sifted out a 25 lb. bag I purchased from Menards for seven dollars.

This stuff is near dust free and yields 75% usable product. For me, usable product is sifted particles 1/8 inch to 1/4 inch.

With the DE- Napa #8822, I usually get around 50% usable product.

Dust mask is advisable!

I do like the light beige color of the DE tho. Even though a bag only yielded around 2.5 gals. And cost around 11$.

I usually mix these two components plus pumice together, so a third of each for my base mix.

Good to know! I did end up trying the napa product and stuff from Tractor Supply. Both were dusty and particle size was really small I thought. I haven't tried the Menards kind.
I think it has worked ok for me so far but I am only a year into the hobby. I have been using perlite as well.
