BALD CYPRESS

Are you using a heavy organic soil mixture and/or keeping it in a tray of water?

No, using akadama with some kiryu mixed in. Kept it well watered but not in a tray. I fertilized it with BioGold. Not sure if I need to repot it every year??

Hmmm, with one exception I do not keep mine in a tray and I'm using three different soil mixtures. One is akadama based, one is 90% organic and the other is a basic three component bonsai soil mix. All three soil mixes are producing similar results; nothing spectacular. I only fertilize once a month with Miracle-Gro liquid. My guess is I need to try some BioGold and up the application. The only tree that looks like it needs repotted every year is the one in a tray.

Either BG or just up your applications with something else on a more regular schedule perhaps. I use teabags with BG and on a weekly basis I supplement with fish emulsion.

Very nice work! As for repotting yearly, the tree will grow enough roots to support this if you so choose. I typically do the every other year thing.

Looks great!......I want one......very natural close to nature feel with it!

Thanks Cmeg! As far as I know, bald cypress do not grow naturally in a weeping style. There is a landscape cultivar that weeps but not wild ones. Regardless, I did try and create something that looks natural but not necessarily abiding by its natural growth habits. So maybe we can think of this tree as a domesticated weeping specimen growing in a landscape somewhere?

Wow, very nice "little" tree indeed. I hope one of the 100 seeds I'm planning to sow next spring will develop in something looking like your tree in 10-15 years or so.

Or.... even better make a whole forest of weeping cypresses!
