Today while I was taking pictures of a small cherry I have I noticed it was pretty pissed off and droopy. I wondered why for just a moment until I got back to put the tree in its place. GASP!!! The tree was in full sun at noon which is not very good for a cherry here. I stepped back and noticed that the sun had changed angle so much that it had entered what normally is my shade area by about 6 feet!
I'm not looking forward to the dormant season as I get very bored, but it is time to go out looking for spring time victims.
BUT, I am pretty excited for autumn as I really enjoy the annual color change in my garden.
So are you excited for autumn/winter?

Aaron

I have three shows this Fall: The Nationals, NC Expo, and the Silhouette show. I'll be busy preparing for those.

I can't wait I love seeing the colors of my hornbeam and quince :). Fall colors rock :)

But still trying to get this wintering down lol

NO. I hate having to be inside. Winter's here suck. Not as bad as those more North, but suck just the same. :(

I'm the same I hate winter, we have mild days in the winter here but the nights and morning can be brutal. Plus all my trees are sleeping, and other then work and my fiance my trees have all my attention, so winters can go by quite slowly for me.

I'm looking forward to these days of mid 90s with high humidity being over I can tell you that. I have to water as soon as I get home from work (around 6pm) and it's brutal to even be out there. When you can sweat through a shirt standing in the shade, it's too hot outside. I'm not looking forward to winter either though. If we could alternate April, May, October and November on a continuous cycle I would be very happy...

Maybe your fiance will appreciate more attention!;) I spend all winter wishing for Spring!

Don't like the shortening days, but love me a day in the sun WITHOUT oppressive humidity, and LOVE sleeping in a bed with a quilt on it. Besides, I get a lot of wiring and minor pruning done in the fall so it's not the end of the world for me bonsai wise.

Waking up at 3 am and not hearing the central AC running...priceless.

Oh I know she starts to hate my trees about this time of year, until the October color show then she likes them again. October is probably my favorite month, there's the Albuquerque international balloon Fiesta that I go and crew for the same balloon since I was born, there's my birthday, and of course the autumn colors. I just really hate winter!
Winter is good time for working on tropicals and subtropicals. Checking wires, re-wiring, (re)styling... for learning and skiing. Trees need a rest and we too.
That's why I was crazy enough to buy a greenhouse and start filling it my second year into this hobby, so I still get up everyday to water something lol.

Winter is also slow for me because I work at a nursery. Water maybe every 10 days and you have the occasional crazy person looking at dormant plants that they can't plant because the ground is frozen. We do sell Christmas trees which I sort of hate just because it kills me to see a truck roll in with hundreds of beautiful DEAD trees.
I like this idea
alternate April, May, October and November on a continuous cycle
If only! Lol

Sorry, I'm not done with summer yet.

That's why I started this thread, the sun moving down in the sky and starting to hit my previously shaded trees has made me sad that it's winding down to the end. I love the fall colors, but I love to work on my trees any time I can. Winter makes me depressed.

Don't move to the northeast! Come mid to late December, the sun doesn't rise until 8am and is setting before 4:30pm. The morning lows are usually in the teens or colder for weeks on end, and it can be cold and grey until May. I miss living in MA, but I don't get the winter blues like I used to now that I'm living in GA.

Sounds about right.....don't forget the odd 2 foot + snowstorm and the tendency of February to be the coldest month right when your trees are waking up.....what's not to like?!?!:mad::mad::mad:

Oh no I'd never move up north, I'm a high desert guy. I can handle a lot of cold, heat and sun but humidity absolutely kills me. I have slightly wavy hair, a few years back when I went to Missouri for a week I had an afro from all the moisture lol

I'm pretty excited because this is my first year into Bonsai:) I'm looking forward to my Ume blooming and my Maples turning colors for a minute. I'm also excited to be building my cold box for the winter as well as assembling the greenhouse that I have coming in for my Tropicals.

I prefer the cooler fall days to the heat and humidity of high summer. I hate having sweat run down my back when Im merely standing in the shade holding a hose to water my trees.

However, I always do view the end of summer activities with a bit of sadness. It marks the end of things and heralds the end of the current year. I am always a bit melancholy when we take the last boat ride around the bay to heat up the oil to do the final season oil change in preparation for storing the boat for winter.

Like spring and summer, fall is a busy time for me. Busy putting boats away for winter, busy getting trees ready for winter, yard work etc etc. I am also a bit tired by the time December arrives, because spring, summer and fall are very busy and I get very few weekends to sleep in and there never seems to be time to just relax through much of it.

I do however enjoy the relative quiet of the winter (barring snow storms). Winter is a time to hibernate, to recuperate after last year's busy spring, summer and fall and to rest up for next year's busy time.

For me, each season has its place and I try to take each as it comes and I am always thankful to survive through another cycle each year.
