Acer palmatum sharp's pygmy [#07]

What a great collaboration! That's what the art of bonsai should be about. No artist greater than the other and together something is created for the benefit of all. My hat's off to you both.

I tried clicking on the image to see the 360. It took me to photo bucket, then it asked me to download an upgrade to some player which I do not even have on my system while taking me to another page. Then it did not want to allow me to leave that page and my AVG anti virus software detected several virus threats on the page.... I am too wary to try it again !

Spring update. Lightly wired and thinned out the tips. Also added a few guy wires. I've been in touch with Max (barrosinc) to see if we can complete the seasonal transformation "movie" by adding a spring sequence. Because of timing this may prove a bit trickier for me to photograph so we shall see but it would be nice we think. Once is all done all the moss will be removed.

Here is a night shot from a couple of days ago.

"I design trees, not bonsai" WP

One of the greatest things about this bonsai... is that it looks like a tree! :)

Thought I would post up my Sharps, now that he feels like a Pygmy compared to Serge's beaut....
Just to show the difference from where the majority of us are at compared to what Mach is doing
And for that matter, good stuff from Max as well!!! Great stuff and well done....back to the thread bomb!!!

Thanks Lance! Beautiful sharp's you got there. It's got a good feel and a future great tree! Take good care of it :)

An awesome maple in every season. Nice collaboration on the video. Well done guys!

Thanks Will, it was great meeting you in person last Sunday!

A thank you to Max Barros for taking the initiative to contact Wayne of BONSAI BARK for the chance to get the 360 published. And of course thank you to Wayne Schoech himself for even considering it, let alone publish it.

I think the height is great, I like how the crown isn't nicely round but the apex jumps a bit out. This is very good like this.(at least to me)
But it looks like there is 4 branch coming from 1 point at the top? Be carefully it doesn't get too thick there

Grtz

Thanks DJ. Yes this is something I do need to address sooner rather than later. I am well aware of it. I do need to proceed with some caution. These maples are akin to working with shishigashira. Somewhat similar in growth pattern and similar in vigor. Older trees like this one do not like to be cut back too drastically much like you would with a regular green Japanese maple. Although they will bud back, in my experience they do not do it as freely as other maples. Last year at the Nationals, Boon said the same thing and caution me about hard pruning pygmys.
