Congrats Mach5!!

I new there was a reason I've always liked your trees so much when you post them! Cause they're awesome, it's soundly verified now!

Thanks wireme! I appreciate it. It is times like these that makes me want to reel it back and go back to basics to make sure I keep myself and the work honest.

Congrats! I'm not sure if I would have had the cojones to mess with the roots so shortly before the show. The tree is just so nice, M5. It shouldn't be too much of a surprise that it won.

I wish I could have gone, but at least I get to see a bunch of pics from the show on Facebook. :D

Thank you KM! Haha yes that was a stunt not sure I'd want to repeat. The tree was/is very healthy and my instincts told me to go for it regardless. The tree was also turned about 5 degrees counterclockwise to give it a bit more directionality in the way branches point.

Tree is still doing fine without any adverse effects from the mini repot. Is as if anything had happened. After a few days without being exposed to natural light and air it is now finally back on its bench to recoup

Or (and) take it as a cue to try somethings a bit crazy and see how well you can pull it off...?

Yes! Funny enough, Brian and I were talking about each doing something outside the box as they give out an award for most innovative display. I must say after seeing one rather outlandish display at the National this year my wheels were turning!

Mach5 it was awesome to get together with you, Brian and Nomiyama on Saturday. The visit to bills place was memorable. Folks please understand this tree that won best deciduous was all that!!! Meticulous, zero leaf burn in mid September , marriage tree to container just beautiful. Well deserved for a humbling artist. Glad to share in the festive.

Sergio, congratulations again. Your tree, and entire composition was perfect, and it was exciting to see it pop up on the screen at the awards banquet. It was a great weekend, lots of fun to meet you and fellow B-nuts; Chuchin, Nomiyama, Amkhalid and Johng, as well as catch up with many old friends from IA and around the country. Looking forward to the book for sure!

I can't say anything that hasn't already been said but I just had to chime in and say your tree is amazing and it is very inspirational!! Thanks for sharing your work with us!

Thank you James! It was great to see you and Chris again! It was good times indeed. The trip to Bill's place was inspiring and no doubt his work is outstanding particularly with maples. As you know my jaw dropped looking at some of those trees!! In fact I think I left my jaw there! :D

Thanks sikadelic I appreciate it! I enjoy sharing because I like the idea of giving and receiving. I always learn something in the process.

I mentioned it in another thread (about the exhibition) but just wanted to repeat here what a joy it was to see this tree in person! Wonderful...congratulations!

Chris

What a great great tree ! Moving it slightly off center was brilliant, it now has that sublime balanced/unbalanced tension that looks so natural. Congratulations and we are looking forward to the fall color on this one.

Congratulations. Being relatively new, I am both in awe and inspired by your trees. I am truly appreciative of your willingness to share your knowledge and insights on bnut. Again, THANKS and CONGRATS!

Thank you Dave! I credit that move to Mr. Brian Van Fleet. I'm glad I did it. When he first mentioned it to me I was not convinced. After I was finished doing a virt of it, I was sold!

Although I was extremely happy to be part of this exhibition, my only wish was that it had happened a couple of weeks later. At that time I would have gotten some autumn color to brake up the monotony of the green. But oh well such is life.

Being a true BNut, I had the crazy idea of placing the tree during the night in front of the refrigerator I have in my garage. Sitting the tree in front of the open fridge, I wanted to try and coax it to start showing those beautiful autumn tones of red. The problem was that we had a heatwave and the heat inside the garage was too much for the fridge idea to be effective. As is I am not at all sure this would have worked anyways but was worth a try. Anything in the name of art! My wife however was not on board with none of this

Congratulations. Being relatively new, I am both in awe and inspired by your trees. I am truly appreciative of your willingness to share your knowledge and insights on bnut. Again, THANKS and CONGRATS!

Thank you whfarro! So many talented and experienced folks here willing to share their expertise and knowledge with anybody that's willing to listen. They inspire me in their work and attitude. I want to pay it forward somehow.

Sitting the tree in front of an open fridge at night ! That is completely Nuts ! You could have also tried cooling the pot with ice maybe ? Packing ice around the pot ?

Can I ask what your soil recipe is for this tree ? I think it makes a difference as far as leaf quality goes. Your leaves look pristine.

Your tree looked great in the show: ) I was happy to see it while there: )

Thanks Kodama so sorry I missed you at the show. There was so much going on!

Ahhh ice around the pot! Why it might be crazy enough to work!! I love it! I didn't think of that but will make a mental note of it for the future ;)

My soil recipe is very complex! The tree sits in 100% akadama. Can you replicate that!?? :D
