I'm starting up a thread to document the conception and (hopefully) progress of an abandoned midwestern farm scene.

The idea came from a drive across I-70 through Missouri and Kansas after having just viewed @HorseloverFat 's Stoneware creation thread.
So I messaged him if he could make me a custom "dilapitated barn" and it turns out he's all about that kinda thing. So I sketched this little scene out and this cool collaborative project was born.

To be continued...

I’ll be bisque-firing within a week or so. Pretty pumped to see this come together, I’m honored to be a part of it! I’m assuming you’d like it to remain unglazed. But if not, just lemme know..

I’ll be “throwing” weathered fence-line pieces SOON..

I will get rid of them in sets of 3 and 5... (this will make more sense once you SEE them)

I will be doing at least this first round of fenceline pieces in the same clay as I completed Barn Ruins 2 (Kanorin’s piece) in.... because I have a feeling MOST will be purchased RIGHT away... for this scene.. so they will
ALSO be in this same scale.

For sake of documentation..

I received Kanorin’s inquiry... He sent me that sketch..and we “went back and forth” for a bit.. Until I sent him THIS concept sketch.5F8E4AA7-5792-44CD-9117-372BBD4626BE.jpeg
Theeeeen.. (these are pictures from the other thread of it mostly completed)45E1E171-8738-48E8-A918-DB4966B44584.jpeg9E5327A7-5F9B-40D7-B30D-B4C8CBE8B498.jpegD151B9FC-3A62-440F-863F-A5688365CD91.jpegEF1D0930-043E-4B82-8182-4B74597C95BC.jpeg
....more to come from me, also!

This set (5-piece) is spoken for for this planting. I kind of knew that would be how it went.. so I used the same detail/grain for the wood as I used in the construction of the barn ruins (not to mention the same clay, same scale... it’s the same “wood”). Normally, I use the same Wood Grain/etching/details, piece-wide. Repeating SOME on “other woods” for “other pieces”.but THIS grain... was brand new, actually, starting with the Barn details. Those details remained consistent in these fence-line pieces.. they are essentially “made for eachother”.E7ADBCBE-0C79-4EE0-952C-C713AB2FB27A.jpeg3A623BE0-955F-4EF9-B470-0ECD82FA9F96.jpeg

Upon.. um.. “playing around with” the fence-line pieces... I decided that there were pieces “missing”... so I am adding these two pieces to the original 5-piece.. (assuming them as PART of it ;). Soooo gratuitous... or.. complimentary.

Having just come back from a trip up to Atchison, KS to see family, I really appreciate this. Very cool idea, excited to see how it progresses! Any idea on what trees you plan to use?

I'm thinking about crabapples or hawthorn...because the fruits would then be close in scale to looking like a little grove of apple trees. Would be open to other ideas. I'm open to doing a mix of 2 species too.

Upon private conversation with a wise man, with a screen-name opposite your elbow skin, I decided to make “mirror image capital F pieces“... to go betwixt the “H’s” and create a CONVINCING fenceline.. (still gratuity, obviously).

This person had pointed out to me that without that connection... or visual implication of connection.. it is “a fence to no where” each time.. makes perfect sense! I agree.. and WILL make it work.

Bring it on.
can’t wait to make some of my own.
I like Penjing and Sakei, but it seems like with a little creativity more regional representation in out miniature landscaping might be possible and pleasing.

Check out my thread too, it’s almost got everything I need to put it together in spring ‘22

This is looking good!
This may seem a dumb question but why not make your fence with wood?!!
