@sorce
Did I wrote"singe"? Yes I did.
Sorry, absolut nonsens. "Slingshot" I meant. A very bad point to start from (imho) according to plausibel design-results.
Basically you have to choose between one of the leaders .

@Bonsai Nut
Read my mind, mate!
This is exactly what I meant with "bonsai-crime". Making a Juniper(-design) out of any species.
But were are not lost. We grow and our trees do. If Walter would read your posting ...
I am very delighted ..

And just one word on Sorce and the understanding of his lunartickings:
He himself "The Sorce" is that oustanding, that it would not be allowed to invent such an artist ...
Everyone is keen on his next posting ...

Ok I absolutely loved this thread. As a beginner myself grabbing just about anything and everything I can to work on, this thread has shown me that I can still create something nice from something not so ideal. I see so many progression threads of awesome trees it's nice to see a boring tree in the beginning turn into something awesome. Gives me hope for a few of my crappy beginner trees

@Noobjuice
Thank you for your positive respons!
Hm, I have to slightly disagree though.

Do not waste your time with poor raw-material. Find better one.

Maybe (as a beginner) it is a good idea to learn and practise the "gardening-craft"
by experimenting with "non-ideal material", before shredding precious
plants.
But if you really have ambitions in developing your own cool trees out of
raw material, choose either good material or nothing.

And please believe me, I had been the "king of timewaste" regarding to that issue ...

... and just for documentation purpose ...
An update of the elm in the beginning of fall.
Raw-material again ... in a new, more feminine pot ...
'No major changes now, but the tree will be restyled in a couple of weeks ...
'Hope you are not bored with that ...
'Looking forward to wirering ...

Killer elm Arnold!
Great job.

Very nice Arnold. Colin Lewis (a bonsai artist who moved from Great Britain to the State of Maine in the US) said that this is one of the species that he misses the most.

Yes I heard that story as well, but
Colin probably meant the english Ulmus.
This is a witch (wych) elm.
The english elm is even more suitable for bonsai.
`cause they have smaller leafs and internodes.
I remenber my first bonsai-book (in german) was from
Colin Lewis.
The best book for beginners ever! ...
Colin is a bonsai-hero for me ...

Dear sorce,
basically I think peeed water is disgusting.
But I think there is a hidden message behind your comment.
I do not know wether I got you really right,
but I understand that as a very special welcom ...
By the way, ' had not been to Il so far,
maybe that is my deficit to understanding...
None of us understand souce either.

Some current pictures of the field-elm.
Well, this tree is for sale ...
Somebody who loves this tree, is the right one to develop it further on.
The tree simply wants to leave my garden ...
It will be offered in the selling-areas of diffrent forums.
Since the trophy in Belgium is coming on, it would be a good opportunity for
my european colleagues to take the Elmus campestre over ... -

Bur anyway, here is the tree.

Another great tree you are selling, someone will be very lucky! You do an excellent job building trees from scratch.

Great tree and thanks for the progressive pictures. Good learn for me. How much do you want for the tree in American? Peter

PS: Not to be concerned about Source...we all worry about him....

@ Peter44 The tree would be around 680,- $ -.

Peter, is there any reason to be concerned about Source?
Is he ill? Why worries?
What do you mean?
