Woke up this morning and Thank God it's much cooler and less humid thanks to some big thunderstorms last night.

It was a bit warm at the exhibit today. I checked the temperature in Houston at one point and was REALLY bummed to find out it was 15 degrees cooler back home than it was in Rochester. Today will be much better.

Bill was a ball of fire yesterday and I never got the chance to say this to him in person. I'll try again today, but in case I don't get the chance, I'll say that coming here has reminded me how much of a giant that Bill Valavanis is in our community. Thank you, Bill for hosting the National Show for nearly a decade as well the myriad of other things you've done, large and small, to promote and improve bonsai in America. You are truly a force in our little piece of the world and our participation in this wonderful art has been touched by the many things you do.

Are you one of the vendors, if so, which booth?

I'm sitting in the parking lot now, in front of the doors. Wanted to make sure I got a good spot. ..lol

I see the tropical and kusamono award was given, have the others been awarded? This exhibit looks like a high point for American bonsai to me, from my desk chair perspective...

Todd Schlafer, a member here, won the award for best North American tree, which, I believe, is a collected spruce.

Nice tribute--He has hung in there all these years, with a special energy, when so many of his generation and so many of the"eastern originals" disengaged and retired to their gardens and families or just got tired of it all. He has bad ankles but he is a damned good bonsai man.

Honestly, I can't remember his user name, and he hasn't posted in more then a couple of years. He's out of CO and collects and sells CO natives like spruce, pine and juniper.
