Finally got back here. Well, this year was pretty bad for my balcony growing, hot and dry. Broadleaf trees suffered too much. During the winter I lost almost all my junipers and I don't know why... in june during the first hot spell my little larch and two jwps died. I fought spuder mites all season long, really don't know what's going on.
But I still do have some trees and I'm narrowing possible spiecies list again.

Thank you, it happens and someone says Why do you want to have your trees baked on your balcony, and he's right. Time to change something. I still have more than pictured, but in development or not in good condition or already naked.

i can relate. my balcony has always been a hot box, i use compost as part of my mix to retain moisture but usually my hornbeams still suffer in the hottest parts of summer. top dressing with spag moss is essential on most of my bonsai pots, the ones in larger tubs do a little better.
i also had an issue with spider mites this year for some reason, they were quite persistent on my native elms, nothing else.

What you have left is still really nice. What is the last one, in the dark green pot?Thanks Bobby. I can remember... some two years ago we had a talk about j. maples and balcony environment. My were fine in DE and half day sun. This is not the true anymore, something is changing and re-considering mixes and mossing the top of the soil will have to happen.
Thanks, Carol. The last one is cotoneaster, they really cope well with conditions here. I will play more with them. These two were dug from my mom's yard, barerooted and put together in this Thor pot this spring. Then allowed to grow free with some light pruning. That's why it looks so rough.

Hi Sorce. Hard to say...you know some trees vere repoted this spring, some were not. The top of the soil dries pretty fast, the smallest are watered twice a day when it's hot. And my main watering time is about just after 12 am when the sun goes behind the building and the hell is over
