1 Sorce! 8 Nanas! 7 Depots!

Don't mistake good for easy. Shimpaku Junipers are far easier to care for and transform into bonsai than any Procumbens of any sub-species. If you can get your hands on some Shimpaku Junipers you ought to do it. You will kick yourself in the rear for not doing it sooner. By the way; they grow quire well from cuttings.

I started taking interest in Junipers this past Spring and your advice on all points is excellent. I recently ordered a mixed batch of 24 and two each Procumben Nana and Sargent. They are being shipped south to grow out and develop far quicker then they would up here.

No. I don't think I am ready to care for something good yet!

They are not difficult at all man! Water and Sun like any other shrub! Go for it!

Is the one with "pimp" movement your bottom bitch?
Do you see what I am saying?

Trunk at first branch was just under an inch, towards the base it got almost 2" so I suppose that's more of the nebari.

About that.... It's dead. I had pictures but they were deleted after a factory reset :/
The "one that got away". Bummer, I've bought a lot of trees from Brent and a 2" trunk for $30 shimpaku is a new one.
Of course, I hadn't seen a 6'2" Maltese until we got this one for my daughter. He eats whole chickens. Hmm...where'd I put that photo....

You beat me on the nana number... Nice little nana 'forest over a stair' you've got here :)

I bought a one gallon kishu shimpaku from Brent last year and I was impressed with how thick the trunk was. I just bought two regular shimpakus in one gallon cans from him this past week and they were maybe half as thick. I'm not complaining. I was actually expecting them to be thinner than that Kishu was. Here's a couple pics. Granted the Kishu was reported into a pond basket last year an allowed to grow, but the trunk hasn't grown much.

From where? Soon as I get my yard and version of Rupert, I'm gonna have that fund going too!

Just saying that or are you actually getting a yard soon? You need a yard!
They look like fun trees could be nice in relatively short term, nice picks.

The one I received last January was considerably bigger, maybe 3 times thicker. I am sure the crop I had is all gone and now he only has the younger stuff.

Just bumpin with a note.
Doe. Lance's dinner.
Ray. Full sun.
Me. In trouble for having an addiction.
Far. My trip to Florida for a tree!?
So. Fucking what about my addiction.
La. My thoughts on your BS.
Ti. A shout out to Bobbylane!
And that brings me back to Doh!
If my trees die this winter!

Just about all tucked.
Last year, I may have underwatered.
In nursery pots? I never gave em a good flush for fear of root rot.
I think that's why they died!

This year, more water!

Sorry man...my last green back in my fund went for that thuja that is on its way right now. Fund depleted...and seen a sweet juniper on FB auctions. BIN option...and no funds to back it. Oh well...next year I will be adding something that has that literati feel. Might not be quite a literati...but a sparce foliage slant/informal upright. Lol but...if I squint my eyes...I can dream.

My hemlock and lilacs were nursery pots. I watered until it ran out the bottom of pot. So don't fear watering. (though mine were in a cold greenhouse. So might differ slightly. I would find out before taking my word)

They look like great subjects @sorce. After you chop up the top, do you reduce the root systems and then put it back in the 1 gallon pot with fresh bonsai soil? Or is that not necessary?

P.S. I've been looking for a shimpaku, What is the best website to buy from?
