    The importance of proper handwriting

In days of old and night of bold before bonsai was invented I ate my sup and drank my cup and went to bed contented But now I fuss and must discuss this art until I’m disconcerted And reject it all and have a ball and do stuff that’s perverted

    Freezing--can spraying or misting help

Its going to get down to 25-28 degrees and I have too amy trees to run them all in the green house plus I have a sciatica attack going on. If I went out during the hours of freezing and misted or sprayed would this thwart injury?

I lived overseas for 3 years and my wife tended many many trees. Just watering is easy, checking when to water is the skill you must impart. Easy.

what is the best wire for tying in trees--could fine SS cable work?

What is the best wire for tying in trees: experts seem to be all over the place in this one. there must be a great malleable strong rust-resistant wire one can use--but what? Galvanized wire its brittle and stick and rusts out pretty quick for me. Aluminum is OK for little things but too...

    how can this be.

Very old thread. I am in the US and never have used Kaizen mixes although he surely has a great reputation and massive local experience. I would trust his mixes if you live in his area. I have little experience with imported Japanese soils. The only stuff I have ever dealt with was old slimy mud...

Is the current bonsai instructional system broken?

I suppose I could go on about different teaching styles but then I would be torn limb from limb. As to the individual pros styles, my experience is limited to impressions only which means I should really bow out however when we examine the state of teaching and or the state of success or failure...

Is the current bonsai instructional system broken?

This does not surprise me--and it encouraging to hear. My exaggerated high-drama explanation is just based on blabbery ( after all how coulda highly skilled artist which such works be a completely unbenevolent taskmaster). It is just an example of different teaching styles--which there are many...

Is the current bonsai instructional system broken?

I don't intimately know Boon but his style of teaching is well known--and clearly produces well-versed soldiers. It seems as if the master/ minion format has worked for him and tough ruler-knuckle-smashing submission is appealing to a slice of the massive demographic of his area. I suppose this...

Is the current bonsai instructional system broken?

My impression on the general subject is demented by my non-typical trajectory, but then I suppose so is everyone's. Basically I think the labor/craft/art has been so fixed on back-looking and origin-centricity that to boldly moving forward is such a strange alien experience for most that it...

A ceramics that is part of North American Bonsai History

Raf, I am not an expert however here is my take. All the anecdotal evidence sure makes this pot sound Lenzian. The clay body looks like one of the groggy ones he used, The upper lip is characteristic. I don't recall him ever making any, and for sure, that sized wheel-thrown pots without an...

    Thuja -when to style...weird weather

My opinion on winter or early spring WC bonsai wiring is it is all fine if you are doing careful maintenance wiring (minor established adjustments, frond wiring etc) I also do winter deadwood work ( being frozen really helps) If the tree is old and valuable I am reluctant to do hard styling. I...
