Be fast ! Before Harvey, I think Ike back then, I spent like 12 hours on a traffic jam trying to leave Houston.

Your drive ain't so bad

I'm 330 miles south of you @drew33998 !!! LOL

I'm thinking to leave on Thursday morning and probably planning to go all the way to NY and stay with family. I'm going to wait to see what this does first until wed night before we decide to go or stay.

Gonna have to leave all the trees behind and hope to see em when we're back. I'm planning on putting them in the shed during the storm, if I stay......

But if I leave you think they would be ok locked in there for say a week (assuming they didn't get flooded out and rotted in the nasty water)?

Don't those nasty buggers some times turn up the east coast after landfall? I would hate to see you in NY with a flood there too.

Yes they do, but it will probably be less of an impact here than Cat 5 direct hit on Florida. Worse we have ever had hit here is a Cat 3. Still very bad, but not like a Cat 5

We have to keep an eye on it up here in case it does turn up the coast.
Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia are in its crosshairs right now

It will decrease in strength once it makes landfall. The main concern is who is going to get hit with the initial surge. Did you guys see that it is picking up on the seismic? No hurricane has ever done that before.

Very true. The house is the best place. I do have metal storm shutters so when they are all closed it's like a fort.

I want to leave... the wife doesn't...........I'm just having flashbacks of going through Sandy in NY and not having power for weeks. Here with the heat I'm not down for that!

But kinda just thinking that if I leave, I'll be gone at least a week so I can pretty much write off all my trees :(

Right now I'm taking all loose things outside that don't matter into the shed patio table, chairs picnic table, kids play gym, water table etc......

I am putting her powerwheels Jeep in the house though

Can you not bring them in the house and sit them in some buckets, tubs, bath with some water for a week? Might sound like a bad idea but is it worse than no water?

Whatever happens you guys stay safe.

Thanks Starfox that isn't a bad Idea. You know what I have those plastic tubs that go under the bed like 4 feet long 1.5 wide and I could put them all in there with water in the tubs.......

If I evac i'm wondering how they are going to fair without light for a week

Honestly i have lived here all my life and this hurricane has the potential to be more destructive than andrew was. If i lived anywhere close to miami id be out of there no doubt. Im in jax and depending on its track we might even leave. If it is definetly going to hit miami first then we will stay. But if it starts tracking a little more east and doesnt make landfall down there we are leaving.

Be safe everyone! IL weather sucks, but at least the worst we get is tornados, and ice storms.

Hope everyone in Fla. stays safe and out of the way. This looks like it is going to be bad down that way.

The current track takes it up the east coast of Fla. as a major hurricane (between 3-5) and into the Carolinas as a hurricane(between Category 1-3).

Looks like Va. will get rains and wind too.

Here's our hurricane shutters, the wind isn't my biggest concern it is the lack of power required for BonsaiNut :p

They will be fine without light for a week.
I would only put enough water to have the level halfway up the pot. Don't completely submerge them.

Remind him...that if he needs help..he puts the lives of those with first rescue in danger. They may not be 80.

Thanks for the direction.........I was even thinking less than that like 1/4 way but I'll go half way up.

When Sandy hit I didn't have power for a week. Thankfully it wasn't really cold. Still cool enough that I had to keep the fireplace going as much as possible. Having young kids makes it a bit scarier as you have much more to think about.

Irma appears to be much much worse than anything I experienced. Hoping you and yours remain safe.
