Won't lie... love any cascade style. Be it semi or regular. I do prefer JM over Trident. So I did hesitate on the purchase...as it was a Trident.

Mind you...I own Tridents. I just prefer JM. Personal preference... but Tridents get knuckles from healing over. Now I mentioned that to Bill V. He mentioned addressing them later in the summer. To correct such issues. Which knuckles that truly bother me. I will do as advised.

I also like...ugly. lol I've some what I call knuckles on this new piece. I tilted my head as I studied it. As when I go into deep concentration...I tend to be a head tilter. I don't hate them. I may allow them to remain as character flaws. 😁...

The tree impressed me upon unpacking it. The flare at the base of the tree. Went unnoticed to me on auction. It's quite nice actually, that it made me smile...

6 inches tall... 11 inches wide. Nebari 3 1/2 inches. Trunk 1 1/2 inches.

The pot surprised me as it's 7 inches across...and 5 3/4" tall. So I'll be reducing the roots by 1/3rd in stages. Because...a dead tree serves no purpose. I'll go with kid gloves.

An unglazed pot...I have on hand shown. Unsure I mind it...its temporary. Or if I'll look for a 4 inches tall glazed.

Direct link to Instagram...for a small snippet of video footage. I'll also share.

I think.. I found the pot I'll choose to pair this tree with. I forgot I had a Shuho pot. *I don't know Japanese pots. Had to look up what it was to name it. Lol

Perfect...in its the right size to take the maple. Reducing the roots by 1/3 and it's cream in glaze. Which I don't mind... and prefer over an unglazed for the maple. That and...I have it on hand.

I didn't think to take other angles. Like the cool base. I just needed to get this done.

The trident is just showing slight movement. Before I begin all my meds for my lungs. Which makes me absolutely daft. I struggle with sentences...and am totally in a brain fog.

(7 prescriptions ... was hoping just a round of steroids. 2 different ones for the nebulizer. A Months worth ... its crazy the brown paper bag that was picked up from the pharmacy) But...apparently my vitals are worse than my visit on the 14th. A steroid shot...again. She wanted to do x-rays of my lungs. But it wouldn't change how she was treating me. Just a different diagnosis documented... I passed that's asinine.

So ... I may vanish again. As...its so frustrating not being able to put sentences together very well. Brain fog...is horrible. I get so daft.

I have some breathing issues and it's not fun. I sincerely hope those meds work for you and you start feeling a lot better very soon.

Sorry to hear that. One just doesn't grasp lung issues. Until, you can't get air into them.

Thanks for your kind words. I'm just so tired...of being sick and tired.

Feel like you could go another route too, by growing out the canopy, wide n spreading. This came up in my mind. Anyway, nice to have options:)

Another idea, I know Hornbeams readily do it, I see it in forests. Branches that close to the ground will often root into the soil. Will baddelly has done this with a low branch on an Elm bonsai, the branch took root after being placed into the soil. Its a cool, unique feature.

Also, in your last photo, the tree doesnt look flat on the soil surface like in the first photos, think I would tilt it a tad right so it looks more stable/powerful. For a chunky, tapered tree like this it wants to look grounded.

I think it's the soil level there. I'll check it out. It has a solid tapering base under the soil when I repotted.

Hmmm food for thought though. On the ideas. Thanks.

@BobbyLane bobby there is a slight knuckle there. As trident tend to do. At this time. In person...it doesn't bother me. If later it does. I'll nibble away at it. It's new to me...so I'm just going to get used to what it is for now.

I did tip it back. To create more of an arch to the cascading branch that seemed so straight. I guess it's more picking the flaw we can live with. But I can always nibble at that knuckle. But the arch I do prefer more than it looking rod straight.

Cool , maybe its just shadow playing on the other pic, looks good in those photos you added, wasn't really referring to the 'knuckle' didn't notice that until these last pics. That wouldn't bother me. Base looks more flat in last photo. There is overall flow there.

I think it didn't help the roots were damp from misting. And I'm sick. To water this was to take it out to the outside faucet which isn't tied to our water softener. I just didn't have the energy for that. It definitely didn't show its best. In a 2D image.

Its more of a traditional tree. I don't have many of them. I felt the flare of the tree would be best seen in leaf. That and...I love a drastic cascade drop. But you lost the movement there as well.

Backside doesn't look overly bad. Appreciate your thoughts though. Truly. The image just wasn't a good one. I seen what you saw. But it was a combination of things. But poor photography main issue. I'm again sick. So I'm off my game on some aspects I tend to be more on top of. 20250311_124533.jpg

Both sides are good. Looking back I can see where the base is a little damp. In future, if you mist the base, you gotta mist the top too:D
Its a cool tree, get well soon dear:)

Thanks yes...it had not been watered in.

They think I have pneumonia. I have steep stairs out back to get to the faucet. I wasn't going down and back up to photo. But dry medium...and a wet base. Didn't photograph well. I hadn't thought to mist the medium🙃... I could have done that. Shaking head.

Thanks for your kind words... I've a second round of meds/arsenal...to do just that. Hoping the second round takes care of it. But I am not on my game. The meds are kicking in...I can feel the brain fog beginning. I'm going back correcting my sentences here.

Even on a tree I have coming in. When am I a strict rule follower? I couldn't get past one...while my brain is just off its game. A friend...said...its a neagari maple. It doesn't need to follow rules. These are my plans. How far it slants depends on when the tree gets here what looks good.
