I don’t plan to let the soil to dry out totally so hydrophobic isn’t too much of a concern.

Nobody ever does. Yet the core of rootballs dry out for most of us at times. All that is needed is one poor watering moment in hot summer and it can take a lot of effort to rewet the core

Officially few weeks later report. Theese guys thrived in the heat and are thriving even better in the new orleans *fall* pics from today. I transplanted day one ish and they all loved it. Bigger pot did the best. Amazing site whenever Eric has JWP im gonna buy 10 of them.

For JWP, have you checked to see if they will survive in your climate? Your profile says you are in New Orleans, which looks a little bit warm to me for dormancy requirements for a JWP. But, growers in your area will know best!
