Gave dog a bath after she rubbed in deer poop while shrooming. (Better than the dead animal last time)IMG_20240421_133045598_HDR.jpg

Seeing the trees coming to life... E hemlock budding like crazy after digging the other day.

That's awesome. The only tree I have in a bonsai pot is a ~150-y.o. Engelmanns Spruce. My job requires me to be gone for numerous months at a time every few years so I've decided ro keep them in cans until I retire to keep the work and maintenance down for my wife when I'm gone. Hopefully will have some good material ready to rock by then. Here is a small shot of part of the Engelmanns bark, so cool 😎
Sorry for the confusion the Maple I posted isn't mine...thread says pic required, so I posted a pic I took at a Japanese Garden in CA . Thread also says "do today" and I didn't take that maple pic today, I know bad dog. I've been following half the rules most my life and I ended up here. :) I hardly ever remember to take pictures when working on trees, dirty paws, and I have to concentrate.

I did clean up the soil & re-moss this larch today, and this is my tree. I cheated and bought it. So, to recap I'm an honest, cheating, liar. ;)

I have at least 4 adult rabbits in my backyard, in broad daylight not a care in the world. I haven't had a problem yet, & I hope I don't. They just drive the dogs crazy and nest in the landscaping. Not many predators in my area.

My first thought...no not that, making new friends. :)

Tried it on my 8yo, and she thought that you planted your bonsai in the ground and let it get big. I had to explain it to her several times before she finally caught on that it IS the same tree, still in the pot.

My 12yo just went wide eyed and said, "whoa."

...

...

I have seriously been impressed. You fooled us solid, and that's a sign of a damned good tree.👏👏👏

Got around to editing some photos of the repotting week from last month. Here’s a Colorado Blue Spruce that was acquired right after collection and have been recovering since late spring of 2022. Ryan and I went back and forth on design and I was able to repot it last month as he finished the initial styling.

Frost advisory for tonight so covered the coldframe to protect the deciduous trees.

Did 4 repots
2 scraggly neglected pitch pines

New itoigawa that was so severely rootbound that I don't know how water was getting into it. It had never been repotted from what I could tell, just up potted. Had a huge circling root and a very dense root ball.

Hope it survives the repot after what I just had to do to it to get it to get water.

Is that another blue and white pot?

I'm already using the first one I got, I may need another

Repotted a wild grape that I collected last year. Reduced the long horizontal root on the right by half and was able to completely remove the thick root on the left. Not a good pot but it will do for now.

Then committed some light torture on a shimpaku that I'm fighting with. We ain't friends right now. Sara Rayner pot just for training.
