From today's lunch break at work. Two European buckthorns and a crabapple.. They were growing in a hedgerow between the turnpike embankment and our industrial park drive way next to a runoff trickle that runs along.

Awake in bed at 4AM planning my drive to MABS on Google maps. Up at 5 and left at 630. Picked up fellow BNut Steve27 around 730 and got to MABS in good time at 12 noon. Sat in a couple of the workshops as observers, namely the maple one by Mach5 and larch with Boon.
Walked around the vendor room, bought a nice itoigawa shimpaku to Up my juniper game (starts biting nails.
).
Now sitting in the demo room waiting for the first demo to start with the 3 headliners each working on a large hinoki.
Wearing my Bnut pin but haven't seen anyone else yet besides Sergio. Where are ya'all??

So sorry to hear Sandy, he was a beautiful dog. As hard as it is to lose them, sometimes we have to pick what's best for them vs. keeping them with us.

He was our first and only chocolate lab. Other than one yellow lab, all of our other dogs have been black. So the brown was striking to us for a while.
Yes, I knew it was coming for the past year, it was just a matter of when. There was nothing we could do and he was not comfortable any more. It was time, I know that, but it still didn't make it any easier to face.

Finally ventured into the Metasequoia world. Found this little Gold Rush at a quiet Maryland small nursery and thought it looked the best of the ones they had. Should be fun to learn the species and watch it outlive me.

I forgot to take a before photo but this little guy graduated out of quarantine after two weeks with no mealybugs showing up. I chopped the sacrifice branch and gave it some fresh topdressing to celebrate. Going to slap some more wire on it when we both get a little more strength but not today.
My friend sent me photos of the trees he repotted for me yesterday and I'm so relieved that they're done. I've still been losing weight and haven't had much energy to make it through anything but tiny repots. Another bonsai friend came and picked up my American beech yesterday to have it repotted at a study group I can't attend today.

More demos, walked around the exhibit, bought a pot.

Repotted my new stock from @cmeg1 . I’m sure I didn’t do it quite right; maybe a bit deep, but given enough time maybe they’ll turn out all right.
I was going to let them establish in these orchid pots over the next couple years, maybe with some light chops to simulate movement and to stimulate back budding. Then I’ll drop these pots into larger terracotta pots to grow out.

I was Docent for our club's display pavilion at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens; 179 visitors, and I was on my feet and talking/answering questions from 10 AM To 4 PM.
We also had a small show (30 trees) in the entrance building of the park.

They are looking very nice!
These will do fine this season.Being a zone 9 tree,Japanese Black Pine,they will be ok with this first extended season.They are already 4 months old.
Keep them good and next season there will be the huge candles!
Check out this regular seedling in only its 2nd grow season! Same exact treatment started early except a regular seedling
