Got out and started hunting for trees and it started raining...as always. Got 4 trees before the rain started at least.

But actually, I've collected plenty of small trees, just don't post everything lol. These are probably bigger than they appear honestly haha.
Anyone know what fungus this is? I'm assuming Sooty Mold? Seen it on random trees, and am just curious.

Went to the swamp, dug a bunch of 8-10 ft tall BCs, hauled them to the lake and planted them on the lake bank. Took 3 prisoners home.

Of the two fraxinus anomala the thinner twisty one is starting to bud out, looking fairly healthy so far.

Would you collect this tree? I am not sure of the species, but I suspect it is red maple. The buds of yellow birch look similar at this stage.

Some will say specimen too large leafs but definitely interesting trunk. Here is a cool thread of a larger maple and can see how he reduces leaf size.

One other thing looks from last picture that buds are opposite so would assume maple and not birch from what I have seen.

All 4 live oaks I collected have budded. Collected in February, they took 6-7 weeks to bud. I have two in pots and two in grow beds. All were planted in potting soil. Trunk sizes range from 1.5 to 2.5”
