Okay, I looked but couldn’t find a definition besides photosynthesis.

What is matriculation?
These BCs show good growth both on top and at the roots, they are now enrolled in Cjr’s bonsai university as bona fide test subjects. :D

Got out and started hunting for trees and it started raining...as always. Got 4 trees before the rain started at least.

Twin trunk oak, and 3 sweet birch.

Yes...

But actually, I've collected plenty of small trees, just don't post everything lol. These are probably bigger than they appear honestly haha.

Anyone know what fungus this is? I'm assuming Sooty Mold? Seen it on random trees, and am just curious.

Of the two fraxinus anomala the thinner twisty one is starting to bud out, looking fairly healthy so far.

The other one, I'm still waiting for proof of life.

If you’re not collecting in the rain you’re not doing the most you can for your trees survival! 😉

Love seeing signs of life in all of my yamadori!

Would you collect this tree? I am not sure of the species, but I suspect it is red maple. The buds of yellow birch look similar at this stage.View attachment 540172View attachment 540173View attachment 540174
Some will say specimen too large leafs but definitely interesting trunk. Here is a cool thread of a larger maple and can see how he reduces leaf size.

All 4 live oaks I collected have budded. Collected in February, they took 6-7 weeks to bud. I have two in pots and two in grow beds. All were planted in potting soil. Trunk sizes range from 1.5 to 2.5”
