good stuff. all my zelkova cuttings failed. so you took them in winter and planted them in a pot. did you protect them or give any special treatments? as in a bag or green house

Nope. Just potted them deep (half in the substrate or so) and kept them out of wind or sun. Half of them rooted.

It should : there are suckers growing from the roots that stayed in the ground after I cut down a big one that was in the ground.

tossed these today. No growth. One of the roots was still not dried and has been replanted. Not holding my breath!

Trimmed the forest a little, Stimulating lower branches by holding the tops back. Happy to see it gaining strength.

A quick update. I have been gently letting this one grow. Fixing some ugy cuts and transitions. I guess I will start upping the fertilizer a little, and next year I hope to get it into a nice pot.

So.. took a bold decision. Decided I did not like the lumpiness in the top and correcting did not work well..

Will turn out to be a sweet decision long term. Will enhance the delicate taper and fine twigging the species is known for.
