Young Itoigawa junipers not doing great

It’s not really debated horticultural science that plants will gain more size in larger pots if their roots are allowed to grow to fill the larger pots over time.
That point is however not valid; It IS debatable whether putting something in a much bigger pot will increase growth, as discussed, also on this forum, ad nauseum. JUST a bigger pot will NOT make the tree grow larger. It is about the right size pot, and uppotting when needed. There is a reason why commercial growers do not plop a seedling in the final sized pot, even though that would be the most work-efficient way of doing it. I am repeating myself. The recommendation to increase pot size is here absolutely counterproductive.

I see, so your question is the specifics of timing I am suggesting. I should clarify.

I would up-pot them in the Late Spring of next year. Not right now, as it’s almost Fall.

Also would make sure they are in properly draining substrate.

Does that clarify what I’m trying to say when suggesting this?

Also, please let me know how putting a developing tree in a bigger pot too early is detrimental.

Thanks,
