I had something similar happen a few years ago. Now I have two people check on my trees when I am gone. A neighbour waters them and a friend just checks on their health and moisture and also checks the house, and shoots me a text if he sees anything amiss. It has saved a few trees from drying out and scorching. You can only expect the bare minimum from someone that doesn't have your love of the trees.
